@ThanosReXXX - Ah, well I hope the personal stuff is dealt with and you’re on the road to recovery. None of that sounds any fun. The lack of purple titan was distinct, though we’re all due an unplug every now and again.
@NintendoByNature - Man, I’m having a lot of fun thinking about you in a flannel cap with a string in your hand tied to a stick propping up an upside down cardboard box with a can of tuna underneath.
@StableInvadeel - Speaking of deserts, my son randomly decided to kill a baby barrel cactus that my daughter and I grew from seed and nurtured under a grow light for the last three years. He just smashed it with a little fairy statue right in front of us. We almost fought him.
@NintendoByNature - Nice! Urban Kitty Hunter has a nice ring to it. I would watch an episode just to see you with your arm stuck shoulder deep in a front porch vent, feeling around blindly until you yell, “Crikey, I found one! I think it’s a big calico!!!”
@bimmy-lee Yeah, the personal stuff is dealt with. Well, mostly anyway. And I'm not really sick, I was just under the weather a bit. I'm all better now, but until yesterday, I was feeling a bit off, so to speak, due to a combination of the heat, my meds and a recurring/periodical treatment that I can definitely recommend to absolutely no one.
But yes, regardless of that, the unplug was refreshing and even kinda necessary. As you know, I'm no stranger to text walls, but once they start to border on the offensive side, then I need to reign myself in for a bit. I don't anger easily, but once I am, I do stay angry for longer than the average Joe, so I don't cool down easily, and the specific topic (gun violence) was one I shouldn't have addressed in the first place, because I am so adamantly against it, that it sparks all kinds of sensations and emotions in me, which is hardly conducive to any kind of logical and/or calm type of discussion making.
The downside of the virtual unplug is that, especially in threads like this one, you're immediately buried in 6 to 7 pages, if not more, if you're unlucky...
(but I've read them all, regardless. I hate not being clued in on stuff)
@ThanosReXXX - Yeah man, it was a weird week. Depressing actually. It feels like we’ve been scraping the bottom of the barrel for so long here, that we finally broke through to new depths. It’s currently unclear if we’re in the initial stages of civil war. But hey, if you’re caught up, you know the conversation careened so far off course that it came all the way back on course in an alternate reality where we’re highly interested in kitten anatomy.
@bimmy-lee Well, I was almost there, right along with you all, but I just saw the 8 o'clock news, and the latest on the whole Epstein story, so now I'm back into conspiracy theories again...
But to offer up something game related, to slightly return to normal again: I made use of the discount offer on the Wii U eShop title Ducktales remastered. It had been sitting on my maybe list for quite a while now, but for its current price, I simply couldn't ignore it anymore, and it was also a good excuse to dust off the old two-screened beast again, so I went ahead and purchased it.
I did forget though, that I didn't have any credit on my Wii U account anymore, and that the Wii U was sorely lacking a good variety of payment options such as being able to connect your account to PayPal, so I had to go and purchase the game on the website through my PC's browser. But at least I got it, before it was gone from the shop forever.
Which also serves as yet another brilliant example of how infinitely stupid it would be, to want an all-digital gaming future...
Just got hit by a big nostalgia wave and wanted to visit this site. Used to be on here all the time in 2011-2013 and last took a peak in like 2016? So strange to see it still being up but everything is so different, the website itself and the people. It's like the name of the site is the same but the smell's way different is this how old people feel all the time LOL
@ThanosReXXX - Just saw the Epstein thing a little while ago, and yeah, I bet we had the same first thought upon that news. Real glad you got Ducktales Remastered, it’s one of the gems of the WiiU eShop in my opinion. I played through it a couple times. I was a big fan of the original on NES, but I don’t think it’s a prerequisite for this game. Highly enjoyable action/platforming fun. The current price is ludicrous. While this is the downside of an all digital, I’ll admit it’s what I’ve done with the Switch. I just used the card slot for the first time earlier this week when we tried out Labo for the first time.
Welcome back @CorporalPegasus . You should find it sufficiently weird around here.
@bimmy-lee Really? I do have several digital titles on the Switch, but mostly free to plays and/or smaller indie titles, that simply aren't available in any other format than digital. The big games are all on cartridge in this house. Not that I've got that many yet (only 6 so far), but still...
'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
@ThanosReXXX - It’s something I considered with the WiiU, but opted for physical there for the big games. I knew I was doing all digital the moment Karen introduced me to Switch. It just seems like the perfect setup to have every game at my fingertips. You know I play the old stuff cart and console, but I kind of got disenchanted with physical by ‘06 when all that really amounted to anymore was a disc in a plastic case with a few slips of paper. At that point, I’d rather just save the physical space, have everything on memory, and hope nothing ever happens.
@bimmy-lee In '06 already, huh? Oh well, we all have our preferences, I guess. You've probably already seen me mentioning this, but for me, it's about ownership. Whatever is or isn't in the box doesn't bother me in the slightest. Those manuals are only ever read once, if at all, since I like/prefer to discover things for myself in games (and nowadays, most games have tutorials aplenty anyway), so for me it was definitely never about there being less in the box or DVD case, which might possibly make digital more interesting.
And in Nintendo's case, prices for digital are often the same as for physical, which is both archaic and odd, seeing as there are definitely more costs involved with physical. And the longer you wait, physical goes down in price more and more, whereas digital largely stays the same, save for the odd limited period discount a couple of times a year, but those are often only for a select number of titles.
The not having control over the content, and not having any certainty of continuity in the future is what kills almost any and all desire for digital-only for me, so I'll only buy digital if I really, REALLY want the game, and there's literally no other option than digital.
And not to step on your toes, but hope in that respect is a nice idea, although much like trust, it's kinda misplaced, especially in this context. As my mentor used to say: trust is good, control is better.
P.S.
Karen?
'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'
@ThanosReXXX - Ha, Karen is the young hipster lady who introduced us to the Switch by playing Odyssey at home, then taking her Switch on the go for a rooftop party multiplayer in the introductory video a couple years ago.
I hear you on the ownership aspect. It does still feel a bit strange to have everything on a digital account as opposed to a shelf full of game cases, and maybe I’ll switch back to physical if/when Nintendo ever makes a dedicated home console again; but with Switch, it’s just really fun for me to have everything a tap away, and I play docked 90% of the time.
I’ve sort of just come to consider Nintendo’s absurd pricing as part of the Nintendo Difference. In a way, their near refusal to cut price on anything, anytime, ever is what adds value to our older collections. I’ve done well with indies in the eShop, getting most of them on sale, but I’ve paid full price on all my first party games.
Also, I never sell or trade in games, so that aspect of digital only hasn’t been an issue for me.
Today is Sunday 11 August 2019, also a celebration of Eid-ul-Adha / Feast of Sacrifice day where Moslems will pray together in the morning and after that they will butcher the oxes / goats for feeding a lot of peoples by the meats or the gizzards.
@bimmy-lee Heck, I'll still watch Homeward Bound these days if I have the time to sit down for it. I loved animals as a kid and still love them, so them "talking" was quite novel for me at the time.
I grew out of Barney pretty fast, but I took my Barney and Baby Bop plushies everywhere I could.
@Nintendobynature Thanks for the kitty updates! Glad that the wrangling seems to be going pretty well. I hope the kittens are at least somewhat friendly.
@ThanosReXXX First of all: welcome back! I was wondering where you drifted off to. Glad that we can have that finger snap if needed. Personal stuff usually isn't fun to deal with, but eh...such is life.
As for an earlier discussion, most of which occurred while I was on vacation....I won't get into it much as it's a hot issue and bends some rules a bit. Let's just say the area I'm in is pretty pro-gun; I personally dislike firearms but do sit somewhere in the middle of "both sides" of the debate. To summarize, I do think some stricter regulations and better coordination at the state and federal levels in terms of preventing them from falling into the wrong hands is definitely needed. That said, I consider it to be treating a symptom (Which in and of itself I have no problem alleviating), not the overarching illness. Who or what causes people to want to kill others, be it with a firearm, flames, a homemade bomb, or sharp or blunt-forced tools/weapons?
