So hyped up for Pokemon Sword and Shield that, for the first time since September I broke out my 3DS and tried to get a Wi-fi battle. While chatting on Discord someone challenged me and I got all excited because I figured anyone still playing would have a real team...

Then I proceeded to slaughter what was probably some poor 7-year old with my team of perfectly bred, EV trained Pokemon. The poor guy got a critical hit on my Gliscor that did less than the Poison Heal ability heals with his Gumshoos.

On another note, wow, I am spoiled by my Switch, the 3DS is so tiny and everything so low res. XD but WOW, look at all these themes and folders on the home menu! What a great idea!

@JackEatsSparrows Ah, the robot from the Alien movies...
Well, at least they were played by actual humans. Nowhere NEAR as appalling as the molten plastic faces of those early CGI characters...

@Anti-Matter THAT is supposed to be funny? I don't know if that's a personal choice or if it is actually recognized as being funny for the country in general, but I find it to be a rather silly and childish kind of humor/comedy. Which to me would mean that Indonesians don't really having any decent sense of humor at all. If it's personal, it would certainly explain a lot, and would be quite fitting for your overall profile...

I like my comedy to be a little more thoughtful and to have some substance. The commercials also pointing out social and/or economical issues are the best, in my opinion. But also the ones that give a voice and an image to the fears and doubts of the general public, such as about automation, and the ever growing role that it's starting to get, also in people's houses.

As far as that specific topic is concerned, this is a truly brilliant commercial:

@ReaderRagfihs I primarily used them to store demos and videos in. Those stupid, "you can try them only an x number of times" demos, which became useless bits of one's and zero's after the counter reached it's limit...

Well, to be fair 240p was already kinda low for 2011 too.

@ReaderRagfihs Yeah, I never understood that weird concept for demos. I'd call it archaic, or Nintendo being behind the times once again, but that's not really what it is. I honestly don't know of any other platform ever having done that to such an extent, besides timed betas and such, but other demos of games are pretty much playable forever.

And what I also like about demos is that sometimes, they're quite unique, ultimately. Mainly because the final game can potentially look and play quite differently, so it's more or less a snapshot of a development cycle.

Those play-limited demos always reminded me of the old Shareware for Hexen, Duke, and Doom. Well, except you could crack those.

The demo for fitness boxing is limited by user, so you could just create a new switch profile and use it indefinitely if you so wish.

@JackEatsSparrows Yeah, that too. You could even upload a patch to a certain Xbox 360 demo, forgot which game it was, but that effectively stopped the clock, which would normally only allow you to play the game for 30 minutes.

@ReaderRagfihs Yeah, I know those. Download the whole game with all but the most basic functionalities and one or two levels openly accessible, and if you buy a key, you can unlock everything. But that too is way different from the weird way that Nintendo went about it on the 3DS.

As for Fitness Boxing: they should have just limited the amount of things you can do, instead of limiting the amount of times you can play the game. That way, people who are interested, would still need to buy the full game, to get the complete experience. And they would be positively triggered, instead of negatively. For me, such measures are actually a counter-incentive, so I will NOT be buying such games.

@Delibheel I wouldn't want to go through the hassle of having to pollute my Switch with dozens of fake "other me" profiles, just to be able to circumvent some idiotic measure implemented in a demo. Nintendo just needs to get with the times already. There's plenty of other ways to limit the demo in such a way that it might still trigger people to want to buy the complete product, instead of going about it in this annoying fashion...

@ReaderRagfihs That actually sounds more along the line of a timed demo for me, since you'd hardly ever be able to finish a game in a set amount of time, such as in games like Zelda, so in that case, it wouldn't matter if everything is accessible, because the game has so much content, an hour of free play time would never suffice.

But I know that's kind of an exaggerated example, but even other game genres generally offer well over an hour of gaming time, unless it's walking simulators like Drowning. Played the demo on Switch. What a disappointment that was. It wasn't even something you actually play, you just walk along a fixed path and text appears, telling you a sad story, and that's about it.

I'm glad there actually was a demo, because I sure as hell would have been angry if I had to pay for this first before finding out that this really wasn't much of a game, if at all. More like a lightly interactive story-telling.

@Delibheel Still, sort of a rinse and repeat exercise, and I REALLY hate those...

Then that's when you buy the full game.

Though realistically you should be able to squeeze about five to seven days with just one go of the demo. With 3 daily training sessions, and 10 free mode routines. Each daily session in the demo is like 2-3 routines.

I think that's quite enough for a demo.

@Delibheel Well, I don't know if that is supposed to be consecutive days or not, but if so, then that's not even an option for me, because I just don't have the time or the appetite, to play a game like that every damn day.

There's only so many genres that can keep me hooked and can keep me coming back every day, or at least a few days a week, and games like Fitness Boxing definitely isn't one of them. I've probably got the record of how long ago I've played Wii Fit or Wii Fit Plus. I have both games, and I only ever played them two or three times. Every time I switch on my Wii, the Wii Fit channel reminds me of my failure to persevere...

Then why are we taking about the demo if you're not even interested in the game.

I mean, I'm just talking about the demo being fair with the content it offers. I'm not trying to sell the game to you.

@Delibheel Well, we actually weren't talking about the Fitness Boxing demo specifically, but about demos in general, and how Nintendo usually mishandled them, in the recent past. And apparently, Fitness Boxing is just another example of how they're still doing it the wrong way this generation, so that is how that game entered the conversation.

@Delibheel On a side note: I actually did download the demo of Fitness Boxing, just haven't had the time to try it out yet, and knowing what I know about it now, I don't know if I ever will.

And I joined to say that demo in particular is not unfair or a problem. For this kind of game, the demo is already quite generous, and the time limit can be worked around.

If they just went and made it easy to play the demo indefinitely, there would be little reason to buy the full game.

@Delibheel No, no, no. You misunderstand. It was NOT about Fitness Boxing specifically. I understand that because it was mentioned, you wanted to offer your two cents on it, but that wasn't the actual point of the discussion.

That was simply Nintendo mishandling demos, especially compared to how the other two (and PC/Steam) handles them.

I use folders on my 3DS to sort my downloaded (mainly Virtual Console) games. One folder for Mario/Wario, one for everything Zelda, and one conveniently labeled Other. Most of my non-VC games are on the home screen, but I also have the home screen zoomed out to where there are three rows. I might steal RRF's idea and make a folder for the 3DS bloatware that I don't use.

As for demos....I do agree that the "X tries of XX times remaining" limits were a bit stupid. Most of the time this didn't bother me, but there were a couple that I felt should have given the player more tried or else gave them more tries than necessary.
