That's a transverse flute. Wish I had the skill to play one, but alas it's not meant to be.

I've never done too well on instruments, past piano and ocarina. I just start overthinking it all. I was more vocally inclined in school and college choirs.

Recorder is just the common English name for a vertical flute that has a whistle-style mouthpiece.

That ad was great. And it sums up why I don't use voice tech perfectly. My neighbors have fancy doorbell cameras and speakers at their garages and such.
I've got a peep hole, a chain-link fence, and motion lights. I'll just sit on my porch with my whitlin' knife.

Recorder =/= straw though.

Come to think of it, I have heard of flutes being referred to as sopranos, but the recorder bit kinda threw me off.

@JackEatsSparrows Yeah, it was, wasn't it? Almost made me spit out my coffee, the first time I saw it.
I do like modern home security, though, as long as it still has buttons. And a doorbell with a camera isn't too shabby either. I recently saw one that makes it possible to connect with an app, so you can actually see who's standing in front of your door, even if you aren't home, and that seems rather handy to me.

Don't worry it's weird for me too, since in Spanish it's just flute. But when in Rome...

The soprano refers to the range of sound it can do.

@ThanosReXXX Truth be told, I like the idea of that doorbell too. My buddy has that, which is handy if the wife and kid are out and he's deep in the back yard with his phone on him. It's even got 2-way audio.

@JackEatsSparrows Yep, that's exactly what I've seen as well, so you'll be able to communicate with whoever dares to ring the bell...

hmm that is awesome I always figured that the recorder was that "instrument" that they made you pay five dollars to learn "On the Road Again" to annoy your family with. You then proceed to put it in a box in the attic and find it when you are in your 30s.

Always happy to hear people making music out of instruments I wouldn't expect. I have sinus issues...anything involving me having to blow is a no go. Wait, I take that back...I do mess around with the harmonica. But I'm a taiko and guitar kinda girl....I'll start the shamisen this year. I wanted the kokyu but I can not find a local teacher in English or Japanese. Someday...

Also glad you got the dislike person. I noticed them but wasn't sure how to report it since I didn't know who it was.

Well, the recorder is a very easy and gentle instrument, so if you ever get the chance to try one, it might work for you.

It's certainly easier to get a nice sound out of it than a harmonica.

I bet those would be fun on Halloween. And with solicitors. Oooh or wildlife.
