@JackEatsSparrows @Octane Guess you guys are more rational than I am. I am fairly angry at them.

@Heavyarms55 Well, it is for your mom in your case. I’d be more annoyed if my order was for someone else too.

@JackEatsSparrows This is even the second gift I have bought for someone where this kind of thing happened. But that ended up fairly easy to resolve, so maybe this one will turn out easy too. I hope.

@Heavyarms55 Although it's understandable, don't get angry, but simply lay the ball in their court, which is what
I would do. Me being a sales & marketing rep myself always helps me in situations like these. Here's how that goes:

You call the help desk or whatever, and when you've got the person on the phone, the first thing you do is simply explain the current situation, and don't let them get a word in between, other than "aha, okay, I see" and so on...

Then immediately after that, you say "now, I know this is obviously not your personal fault, but how do you think that you can help me get this fixed, so I can still receive that book that I ordered, and which I still would very much like to receive?" (and if you feel comfortable with it, do emphasize those two words that I wrote in bold letters)

This may look and sound silly, but it actually does two things: it positions you as a VERY patient, but still disadvantaged customer, AND it subconsciously gives a compliment to the help desk agent, because this is one of the most positive ways that you could express a problem or complaint. Getting angry creates resistance, which is not what we, as customer, would want. We want our article, so it's always best to be the wisest party of the two, and simply play the people on the other end, to get what you want.

All of this creates a situation in which the help desk agent will lean towards you. Of course, it's their work, so normally they should already do that, but actually making them feel for you and wanting to do that, takes a little more effort, although it's not really much of an effort, just a bit of acting, and keeping your perhaps disgruntled self in check, because that's not going to get you anywhere.

Well, whatever happens, good luck with getting that book you ordered.

@JackEatsSparrows Haha, well do keep those stories coming. Most of them crack me up, simply because I can relate to them in some ways, having been a team leader of a sales & marketing crew, which had some overlap with some of the stuff that you come across on a daily basis.

While I was in town for breakfast, I went by work’s main office to turn in some reports. The CEO heard me talking with my supervisor on the way out and hollered down the hall;
CEO; Happy Birthday!
Me; Thanks
CEO; I was hoping you’d bring some cake or a groundhog!
Me;.....I ate them both. quietly exits hallway while they keep laughing and rambling

I never understood this either. I think that very few people pay attention to it TBH. It's more for fun than anything else.

@ThanosReXXX: I always try to be patient and understanding in situations like that. I know that fielding calls or emails from an irate customer can be irritating and draining. It's one of the reasons why I'm glad I no longer have to worry about phone calls at my current job. We have support guys for that. Most of our clients are pretty good thankfully.

I do know a guy who tries to automatically be assertive/kinda angry in such situations because he believes it gets results faster vs. doing the polite runaround. While that may be true in some cases, I also don't believe it's to your best advantage to give the person on the other end of the line absolute heck. They're people too, and I don't feel that it's fair that some people siphon off their anger onto them as it's very rarely their fault.

I made Sheldon & Mr. Randoms back on Flipnote Hatena, now i'm a kangaroo mod that has a funko pop collection!

I'm not keen politics since that stuff is spooky, I'd rather watch SpongeBob over Fox News anyways!

This was me at the main office, especially after one old lady in accounting came up behind me, put her hand on my back, and started singing the birthday song.

Considering that I had to work the day after Christmas this year, I can kinda see why some places have this day off too. It probably isn't so bad for those whose Christmas Day is leisurely, but when yours is a driving, gift, and food marathon.... 😴

Most of us have become a Squidward at work, or even on the dance floor, however, hopefully it's true that "Squidward" will introduce the halftime show during the bubble bowl tomorrow.

One year my family decided to wake me up on my birthday with las mañanitas (a popular birthday song here) blasting on a speaker.

I got up and went directly to turn it off, ignoring them.

Then I went back to bed.

In other news, today in Mexico we all eat tamales. So go eat a tamal and participate.

@Blitzenexx Of course, people who work on help desks try to be patient and understanding, but depending on the day, personal circumstances and so on, that can be pretty difficult sometimes. And of course, during the day, you may get multiple complaints slapped in your face, or the umpteenth angry customer, and that certainly isn't doing anything to improve the mood. We're all just humans after all.

And although the anger is sometimes understandable, it still creates resistance and/or more unwillingness to go the extra mile for the customer. Which is why I always stay polite, and don't blame the person on the phone for what the company that he or she works for, did wrong. And that creates a positive environment, in which people are far more willing to help you.

Before I was a sales guy, I actually did a year of customer support desk myself, and even in sales, you get the odd angry call every now and then, so I've had my fair share of them, which is why I can relate and why I know what works better, in order to get the desired outcome.
