Topic: Should Nintendo do "Original series" on the eShop?

Sony currently has a PlayStation original series called "Powers" which is apparently based off a comic book. Microsoft is working with Steven Speilburg on a Halo show for Xbox Live. With the popularity of original web content rising, would you like to see Nintendo produce a new IP that isn't a game, but rather a Web TV series? It would mark the first time Nintendo would introduce a new property as a show rather than a video game. Plus, they've been experimenting with those Pikmin shorts on the eShop and the Kid Icarus anime shorts before, so they must be open to the idea.

I'm a Nintendo fan because of video games. It's nice to see them branching out and doing stuff such as licensed non-gaming products and stuff like the Universal amusement park deal, but I really do want their in-house focus to be on games.

I'd watch a web show based on Nintendo property, but I don't think something like that would ever be able to excite me as much as their games do.

A new IP? No. Existing series? Yes, depending on which series and how it's handled. Nintendo is still a gaming company, so I'd rather see them focusing on new IPs for games, rather than on non-gaming IPs.

Yes, I like bears.

It doesn't necessarily have to be based on a Nintendo property. It could just be a show that wouldn't have a home on a mainstream TV network. Sony did this with Powers, it's a PlayStation original series not based off a PlayStation property. It'd be interesting to see Nintendo get in on the Binge-watching web show game by signing on a show created specificaly for the eShop. But you're right, Nintendo's #1 focus should be video games, but that shouldn't stop them from branching into other media ventures.

I think it would be better to partner with Netflix. They already have the subscription base and the infrastructure to make Nintendo serials a success.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

They should do more to get their IPs out there and relevant/relevant again rather than keeping it exclusive to their systems, which are a handheld and a not that successful console.

Spoiler alert, Netflix and movies are more popular than Wii U.

I was on board with the idea of them partnering with Netflix since the Zelda rumor and after Daredevil's success I'm even more sure this is something they should venture into. One of their main problems this generation is that they haven't been reaching a mainstream audience and a show is a good way to do that. Look at Sonic Boom. The games were a disaster but the show itself has been successful enough.

There's really no need for them to search for outside properties or come up with a new one though, there's plenty of existing choices that Nintendo fans would be vastly more interested in seeing anyway. Mario and Kirby haven't had shows in a while. The Pikmin and Kid Icarus shorts could be turned into full length shows. The anime industry seems to already have it's arms wide open for Splatoon. They could even do mini-series to test the waters for interest in older IP's like Eternal Darkness and Sin & Punishment.
