Email I sent to Mercury Steam. Developers of Metroid: Samus Returns
Greetings,
I'm a lifelong Metroid fan who is heartbroken. I'm heartbroken because I'm tired of Nintendo treating the Metroid series as a 'second-class' citizen! When will Nintendo give a Metroid game the treatment the series deserves?
I'm still waiting for a 'proper' Super Metroid sequel! No, Metroid Fusion is not Metroid 4 in my eyes! I hope you guys are remaking Super Metroid and not some dumbass fighting game studio that made Metroid: Other M! You better do it justice if you're remaking it! Super Metroid is the greatest game ever!
I liked Metroid: Samus Returns but it wasn't the Metroid game I've been waiting for! Too much focus on combat! After beating it, I sold my 2ds which I bought just to play your Metroid game. No offense! Honestly.
The Metroid game I'm waiting for is your 'Magnum Opus' that you've yet to release! It's called Metroid: Sylosis! So called because it takes place in the Sylosian system with 7 planets to explore. It's 3rd person! Screw Prime 4. It's already a flop. Elevate your game!
Sylosis is a open world Metroid with a quest system. Epic in scale. Not catering to casual gamers. This for the true Metroid fans! All 20 million of us! We are legion!
In Sylosis there's no offensive tutorials that familiarize you with game mechanics that 95 percent of other games employ! As if we are morons! There's no stupid ass cutscenes about some wak story that alienates the fans! There's mystery! Full immersion. No this isn't VR. VR ended with Half Life: Alyx. It's all downhill from there!
This is Metroid that moves 10 million Switch 2 systems! This is Metroid ala Skyrim taken to the next level!
It starts in a space station orbiting a planet in the Sylosian system. There's a gasp Metroid cell in cold storage there! Samus has been sent to destroy it but Ridley shows up and steals it. The stations orbot begins to decay after his attack! Her ship is destroyed! She must make her way to the escape pod!
She lands on the alien planets surface via the escape pod, with no ship! She's! Or is she? This is a nod to Super Metroid.
The first planet. Well first 'act' of the game is trying to figure out how to get off this planet. Since this is an open world game, you can return to this planet later...
This is not a 'survival' game. There's no 'weapon durability' mechanic that so many game devs seem in love with!
Real life sucks! We play games to escape this good forsaken, dull existence! To get swept away! Your weapons don't 'break' in Metroid Sylosis! This is a game!
So the first act is trying to fix a derelict ship Samus stumbles across. You have to collect parts in order to fix the ship. Maybe some mild crafting. Don't go overboard with the crafting mechanic. Don't overuse it!
The first act is 7-10 hours. Maybe surprise the gamer. Somehow make them wonder if they will ever get offworld!
Once the ship is fixed and she gets into space there's another encounter with Ridley. A capital ship has showed up as a result of the station being destroyed by Ridley. They deploy fighters to attack him. He's wounded and falls into the capital ship. The capital ship is heavily damaged. The fighters turn on Samus and an epic space battle ensues. Samus's newly acquired/repaired ship is badass. She defeats the fighters and chases after Ridley! He's trying to make it to the surface of another planet to nurse his wounds! This is gameplay not cinematics! This a game not a hybrid!
Samus catches up to Ridley as both are entering the atmosphere of another planet in the Sylosian system that he is seeking refuge on. He's injured from crashing into the capital ship!
Samus and Ridley fight as the capital ship he previously damaged from crashing into, enters the atmosphere. The capital ship starts to break apart around Samus and Ridley while they're fighting! Crew members from inside the capital ship are visible while fighting Ridley. They turn to ash.
Ridley screams and flees. Speeding to the surface. Samus lands. She exits the ship and the title logo with a little jingle briefly flashes. Now the real game begins already hours in. It's gonna be a planet hopping, epic adventure!
The rest is up to you! Make this game! Be the 'second coming' for us Metroid fans! I know you have it in you! You resurrected the Castlevania series with Lord of Shadow for god sake! Resurrect Metroid! Too hell with Prime 4!
Put together a demo and convince Nintendo to let you make this game! Call it what you want. Put Retro Studios to shame!
@InZane84 I think the only way to have influence on a game's plot development is to attain attain a leadership role on the development team. Or have a miyamoto-like exec role at nintendo. If anyone answers your email, it will be probably be copy-and-paste thank you, because there is no channel for fan mail, maybe only a channel for bug reports. That seems to be norm for any company with a high profile product.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,241 games (as of March 23rd, 2024)

@Magician Originally the rumors were that they were working on a 2D Metroid. Whether it's Fusion Remake, Super Remake, Samus Returns port, or something entirely new is just speculation as far as I've heard. I think that started back with the rumor that Nintendo had 3 Metroid games under development simultaneously, which was presumed to be a 2D one, Prime 4, and Prime Trilogy. Then we had the 2D Metroid + new Paper Mario rumor come out a few months later.
