Ya, bit of a let down. Couldn't stand the performative boarderline narcicistic annoyingly fake teenybop young 20-something year old cast. Once they were scared sh**less after realizing they were being hunted by a Massive bull shark their cringey reality star "it's party time on the yot!" look at me BS thankfully vanished.The Shark effects were usually a bit of a mess though, and weren't very effective thanks to the overeliant use of CG.
I kid you not, i thought 47 meters: Uncaged was a lot more enjoyable, and that sequel apparantly gets a ton of flack.

I watched one Backrooms YT Video from beginning to end, which was decent enough, and skimmed through a couple of others. Than i stopped, because none of them share the same level of quality and cinematopgrahy as the movie. It's all hokey Gen Z creepy pasta BS.
Meanwhile, I've got the new He-man & TMOTU live action flick to watch on Prime, but I'm just never in the mood for it. There's no way in hell Skelator(With his moddified voice, voiced and played by Jared Leto) will come anywhere near close to the incredible performance by Frank Langella in the 87 live action movie. They really should of gotten Langella to reprise the voice, unless he's just too old to pull it off anymore.
RED DOG (2011).
Enjoyed this one. Based on a true story. A little predictable, but no less lovely. An Australian made film.
Red is a dog that wandered around Australia in the 1970s hitching rides wherever he pleased and basically got by as a community dog. He settles in a miner town and brings good fortune to all the workers. A lot more unfolds, turning it into one of those bittersweet yet uplifting stories, and honestly, he really puts Greyfriars Bobby to shame with what happens. 🤣
In Australia, they legit have a statue of him in the town. He meant that much to everyone.
Last night watched Exit 8 with my sis. I went in knowing literally nothing about it other than the fact it's a horror film based on a video game which I had not played. Going in completely blind is my fav way to watch a new horror flick.
Anyway, it was fantastic. Very much in a similar vein to the Backrooms, i.e., lost in a creepy sterile labyrinth. Liminal horror I guess you could say? The film is essentially characters walking through the same length of hallway set for most of the movie, but with clever camera work and editing it remains engaging throughout and genuinely spooky at times.
I think it's the first vg movie that actually made me want to go play the game, and that's exactly what we did right after. The game is also similarly atmospheric and does a very good job at messing with you, I highly recommend both.
Odyssey was a banger. Now that's a summer blockbuster! It brought everyone. My theater was packed. I have never seen that in years, since the pre covid era.
Christopher Nolan is a household name. That man is respected.

The JERK (1979). I know it is regarded as Steve Martin's best work, largely, and a comedy classic, but I had to say this one bored me. I only smiled a couple of times, not laughed, and most of those moments involved dogs, so they deserve the extra credit for that! Just didn't do it for me I am afraid! It is not funny enough to distract from the many 'whys' and 'hows' that occur from the script/plotting/pacing.
I feel bad saying it. I grew up with my parents quoting it ALL THE TIME, so kind of had high expectations. Maybe too high. Somehow dragged even at 90 mins long and I just wanted it to end. I liked him in ALL OF ME, but there he was a tad more restrained. Think uber wacky Martin is not for me! 🤔
@Mana_Knight I remember catching The Jerk on tv as a kid, it was the scene when he's working at a gas station and being shot at by a sniper. "He hates these cans!!" It was one of the funniest things I had seen at the time, right up there with the 'automatic pilot' from Airplane.
@OldManHermit I will give it that scene. That line is funny. Lol. Like I said, I think I went in with too big expectations from what I heard over the years and it didn't quite do it for me as a result. ALL of Airplane cracked me up too. Even the much hated sequel where they go into Space. I have a soft spot for that too.
@seinfeldfanatic That's a fun one. Leviathan (1989) is another pretty great mutant sea monster movie on tubi. Feels very Resident Evil, but under water.
Man, Spiderman's on an all time run. Makes me feel bad for most other superhero movies. Hot take: I like the past 5 Spiderman movies more than any Thor movie or any Superman movie outside of the first one from the 70s.

If you had seen Brand New Day, you would have seen it even more packed, as it just broke the all-time opening record in U.S. & Canada.

I liked Far From Home more than a lot of people, it is obviously objectively the least of the past 5 Spidey films in most regards except for comedy(it is fascinating how zero MCU films this decade, even the really good ones, would be even as funny as an average 2010s MCU film. I dunno what happened there).
Not helped that the Iron Man angle for Spiderman feels entirely dropped now, so the main point of the film barely has anything to do with anything anymore.
The opening was great with deadite Jessica and the the two guys fishing. It really set the mood and had me fooled into thinking the rest of the film was going to be of high as quality, believable and suspenseful. Nope! Just like Rise, Burn is teetering on the verge of cringe with it's try hard deadite performances which fall flat on their face compared to what we got in ED Remake(2013).
Sam Ramie's Deadites from ED 1&2 are still creepier and have far more character. Combined with bizarr practically effects, puppet/animatronics and even claymation. The latest two rarely ever toy with any of that. It's basically, actor in bland make up, yellow eyes, altered voice, trying to act all devilish and scary and it rarely ever works. Neither Rise or Burn are worth watching, other than for the latters opening lake scene which is probably on YT already anyways. Cinematopgraphy had a lot of close up shots, and everything was basically muted grey & green. Not on par with Rise before in that regard.
1, 2 & maybe Army of Darkness are where it's at. The 2013 Remake was excellent for it's time too, but it doesn't hold up quite as well as i remember it(The final showdown between so and so was so underwhelming). Still mops the floor with Rise and Burn!
Leveticus - 5+/10
Clearly inspired by It Follows, and is nowhere near as good. Not even close. I enjoyed it a touch more than Evil Dead Burn, but it felt like a pale immitation of IF and rarely had you guessing if the boyfriend of the other boyfriend(Vice versa from the other persons perspective) was the demonic entitiy or his actual self since the entity didn't take on another form as somebody else other than who the boyfriend loved which was the other boyfriend, and could only seek out who it was after if that person was alone and if they loved whoever the entitiy was pretending to be, which...drumroll was the other boyfriend. No use of wild crazy practical effects either. Straight forward low budget affair.
But at least we're getting It Follows 2 and from the same director of IT.
