@jump Worth giving a chance, in that case? Slow and dense is fine if the film is sufficiently stylistic or has something interesting to say. I sat through all three hours of Inland Empire and have 'read' most of James Joyce's work (as his career went on, it became increasingly difficult to read his work in a conventional sense), so I can process anything if I'm sufficiently motivated.

And wow, Monster Hunter? Like, the video game? That seems like a weirdly niche reference. I thought filmmakers who weren't making video game-adjacent films were contractually obligated to only pretend like hyper-violent first-person shooters exist.

@Dogorilla The funny thing is that, in attempting to separate 'serious fiction' from the lowly rubbish consumed by working class peasants, snobbish cultural elites have turned "literary fiction" into just another genre. And, often, one that's more constraining in terms of what you can explore than genres like sci-fi, fantasy, and horror, where publishers welcome and often encourage more cerebral subject matter. It doesn't matter how much insight you have into the human condition, or how restrained and powerful your prose is, if your stuff features serial killers, aliens, or dragons, you're probably not getting published in a literary fiction journal.

In reality, the best fiction often transcends genre.

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika We're in the movie thread, but that's ok.

Yeah, Wakko's Wish was a movie about Wakko, Dot, and a bunch of other characters chasing down a wishing star to make a wish. It's pretty cool to see Puss In Boots 2 do something similar, again, I mean that in a good way.

Those reasons alone are why I loved Perrito! He was totally giving me Poppy vibes (seriously the map morphed the world into happy things like rainbows and flowers when he touched it, lol) by looking to the bright side of things, his tragic backstory was so sad, yet his attitude was just so positive, over the course of the story, it helped both Puss and Kitty. I agree, he's become my favorite within the Shrek universe.

The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!

@Ralizah I’ve always struggled with Lynch myself. I set myself up for failure by expecting too much from Twins Peaks as I thought it was some kind of psychedelic LSD trippy show filled with backwards dancing little people only to see it’s offbeat and slow instead.

Well Tar is straight forward and slow which I could see being the issue for some people, it uses it slower pace to fill up on lots details (although you do feel it being slow on the backend) so if you’re the type that can enjoy that great but if you want a snappy pace for the plot then probably not.

Monster Hunter is plot related and used as an exclamation point so I don’t want to say how exactly it’s used. But she’s an orchestra conductor and Monster Hunter has a soundtrack so you can probably figure it out.

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika who said anything about because it’s not inappropriate it must be disqualified from the Oscars? A few of the past Oscar winners have been clean cut family dramas like CODA which is the only one that springs to my mind at the moment* even though I did think it was too safe and should have gone to someone else.

Stop taking me sayings it’s a children's film or a popcorn flick as term to mean it must be bad as it doesn’t mean that. It’s just as you said yourself in the post in the post I’m replying to it’s entertainment. The Oscars aim is more towards high art than entertainment which is why it’s not there. Don’t take it personally, most of my favourite films (even the arty ones) didn’t make into the Oscars this year.

*oh, The Sound Of Music is another.

@jump
1. Why are you judging a movie you clearly didn't watch
2. This implies that no animated movie, hell, any movie that isn't at least PG-13 is just a little baby boy movie, and therefore, isn't art. So I guess Spider-Verse is just a shoddy kids movie on the same level of Open Season 2.
3. Can we shut up about the Oscars already?
4. At least come up with better names than "P-ssy in Booty".

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy there.

@HotGoomba So what’s your favourite Oscar winning movie then? ;p

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika I make fun of lots things, I’ve been referring to the new Zelda as Kingdom sad 😰for lols despite it being a highlight for my coming year but it doesn’t mean I hate it.

Seeing as this conversation is rather boring now how about I apologise for my sense of banter rubbing you the wrong way if you accept I find it absolute silly talk for the Shrek Cinematic Universe to be considered Oscar worthy?

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika thanks for the heads up. I actually thought I expressed my thoughts in a very polite, non - invasive manner, but if that's the case then maybe it's not worth it.

Bring me the sesame, miso, citrus and pepper flavored fish cakes

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika well you were the one debating with jump. I just watched it peacefully.

I didn't get a warning... This is bringing up a memory... I'm glad you didn't get the hammer.
