@Rambler snippy but fair as people only want corporate movies because it’s easier to digest than arty visionary stuff.
If people would let their pop culture driven popcorn entertainment where the constant comedy undercuts the emotion/drama happening and everything has to be resolved with an action sequence be popcorn entertainment they would enjoy them more rather than arguing which one is marginally better but ultimately the same.
Saying that though probably my favourite film of the year so far is the corporate backed 3,000 Years Of Longing which is a big budget movie made by the guy who did Mad Max, Babe and Happy Feet which is really just a conversation between two people arguing the merits of love.
@jump
I've heard mixed things about 3000 years of longing, but George Miller is always interesting. Plus it's always worth linking to this - the story from the first Mad Max when they decided to power a car using a missile: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/jun/01/we-considered-ou...
@Rambler yeah, it’s sold as a trippy film which it really isn’t as its a love letter to storytelling (stories, not mild action-comedy films people won’t shut up about) and the third act is wonky but it’s not wonky enough to derail the film for me as the core of it is an argy bargy between an incel and hopeless romantic debating love really works for me. It could have used a guy playing a flamethrower guitar whilst on a bungee though but then again ever since Fury Road I say that about every film.
@Kermit1 yeah it’s not addressing the real issue of these poor people choosing to be poor and then complaining about being poor!!!
@Kermit1 it’s a shame you deleted it by accident but luckily I remember what you wrote. You said something along the lines of you believe everyone should fully support Russia in their invasion of Ukraine in hope it stops the sanctions so it lower the cost of petrol and thus the monster track rally stays affordable for you. That’s bit of a grenade comment you’ve thrown out there!
@HotGoomba Please stick with it! Coraline is absolutely fantastic and probably one of my favourite stop-motion films ever (alongside Curse of the Wererabbit, Pirates! and such). Also, it gets WAY more interesting near the latter half so yeah: keep going with it!
I should probably rewatch it again to be honest, I've been watching a lot of reviews/analyses of it recently and it's gotten me in the mood.
