My favorite moment in Frankenstein is in when Igor breaks into the classroom. When somebody bumps into the model skeleton, it moves and clatters, and the whole class laughs, establishing A, that the skeleton articulates; B, it can be easily bumped; and C, that doing so is humorous.
Igor then bumps the skeleton unexpectedly and jumps from being startled. It's funny to the audience but more importantly tells us that Igor is nervous.
So moments later, we understand why Igor is startled by nearby voices and why he drops the jar and thus resorts to taking the abnormal brain. Igor's attempt to take the normal brain shows us first that Igor can read and initially made the right decision, granting him some credibility, and then that he's not quite concerned enough to stick around; he's happy to settle. Now we know that Igor is committed to Frankenstein, but he also has personality quirks that give him agency and unpredictably.
Tarantino says he has only one film left. Give it 6 years and he'll probably want to come back, that's when I'd like to see him try out a superhero film of his own.
It's pointless to theorise what superhero he'll pick because it's Tarantino he'll make what he wants.
Honestly I got to agree with him to a point. Superhero media is really crowding the TV, Film market and makes it pretty much impossible for a up and comer to make something original without having to do a superhero or horror film to get the recognition from the major studios.
Superhero films are kinda like westerns in a way, a genre with tons of films coming out every year varying in quality. Then after the market got "sick" of them, they started making less and less films and money per year. That's probably what's going to happen with superhero films, the large crowd of "common folk" (non-fandom aka roughly %60) are going to get tired of the formulas and things and start seeing other movies more and more. I think the same will also happen with remakes and reboots, people go through phases and eventually grow out of phases.
@Eagly If you were to ever make a movie superhero or any other genre, what would it be about and who would be in it (must cast only alive people, to add a rule).
@Kermit1 superhero movies/tv shows are a Genre and alot of them suck(like everything marvel phase 4). But they don’t have to. The movies Tarantino hates are the most corporate sanitized versions of super hero movies. It would be like saying You hate the Romance movie Genre because of Twilight. Just because Twilight sucks (not to say All Marvel movies suck I literally just dropped $20 for 15 minutes of Deadpool 2 footage). You can make great suphero media that makes people think like Doom Patrol, The boys and Peacmaker or you can make something completely unsanitized like Deadpool. Super Heros are A Genera and you can’t judge them by the worst Offenders. In fact I’d like to see what Taratintio could do with his own indy super hero movie because he probably could do better.
Wow, this is such a great take, I totally agree with this!
