@Pizzamorg
They both sounded like quite intriguing films! That's a shame

I don't remember the first half of X being that bad myself, it could do with some tightening up though. I can see why someone who expects a slasher flick wouldn't enjoy it, as not only is the film an homage to old timey horror like Texas Chainsaw Massacre but to old timey xxx videos too which have a lot of crossover and ties it's themes out later.

I enjoyed X but I wouldn't overly recommended it besides saying it's alright, I probably will see Pearl although I'm not in a rush to.

Yeah, that was my issue, @Jump. That first half would have been fine, if it wasn't an hour long and if expectations were set differently. This isn't like one of those Slasher movies where stuff only happens in the book ends, X is basically a completely different movie for an hour and then turns into a Slasher in the last 40 odd minutes with basically no escalation, it like he flipped a light switch, and it became another movie. It is a really odd proposition to ask your audience to deal with.

Then again, I thought Sacrament had exactly the same pacing issues (in that it feels very much like two films just sorta stuck onto each other, and rather than blending or building to the shift, there is just a switch flipped and it becomes another film). And I thought House of the Devil was just pretty damn boring all the way until the last like 10 minutes, but also still managed to have some shine due to its rich period detailing, something both X and Pearl have in abundance.

Life to the living, death to the dead.

@Rambler such an odd choice after the slender and taller "shape" for the first two films. It's basically Danny devito.

@Eagly I dunno, Prey and Turning Red was pretty awesome. I've not seen Barbarian, The Bob's Burgers Movie or Amsterdam yet but I've heard good things and there's still Avatar to come and every time someone writes James Cameron off the movie ends up as a juggernaut.

@Eagly I really don’t understand the “demographic” argument for Turning Red, it’s a rather universal coming of age story where you go through puberty, arguing with your parents and finding yourself which happens to even non-Canadians, non-girls and non-Asians. As well as it’s art style which subtly channels anime and video games would be more welcomed on a site like this. Despite not being Asian, Canadian or a girl myself I see a group of teenagers trying to go to a gig as more like my teen years than a lot of other films, they just need to change it from a boy band to seeing Slayer or Prodigy instead.

It’s even more strange when people talk about how they can’t relate to this movie but then talk with excitement about films about alcoholic billionaires who wear mecha suits and hang out with spies and giant angry Shreks or sci-fi space wizards who save princesses using their weird cult religion powers.

@Eagly It's not about menstruation though either literally of by theme, there's a one boringly mild joke about it but that's it. The mood swings and stressy emotions which makes her become a panda in the movie is an allegory for the mood swings and stressy emotions experienced by teenagers due to their hormonal changes which happens with both boys and girls.

I personally I think Disney missed a trick by not making it about periods, I wanted to see the lifts in The Shining level of blood in it!

@Kermit1 I know someone who worked on the new Ant-Man, they said the worse thing about it was pre-covid the craft food table was amazing but post covid they took the table away and everything was pre-packaged food. Hollywood have it so rough!

Ant man trailer looks really good. But I am not sure how I feel about Kang. But maybe more screen time will help that. In any case, it is nice to be exited for a marvel movie again. The last few jus haven’t done it for me.

Awe look at the lift's smiling eyes and big grin!

@Rambler typical actors, the lift saw how much Jack Nicholson was grinning in the film so they felt like they had to compete for screen time which is why the lift so overacted in that smiley manner in that scene.
