The new Indiana Jones should be amazing, they have cast Phoebe Waller Bridge who is one of the most audacious and inventive actor/writers of the last few years with her work on Fleabag and Killing Eve. She will bring her prowess to her role where she pretends to be scared of CGI snakes, put on a horrible American accent and try her best to make you think a relationship between her and Harrison with a 50 year age gap is perfectly not eww.
@Rambler At least Phoebe is in her 30s unlike the first film where it turns out Indy has been taking 15 year old girls from their Dads for ahem reasons....
@TheJGG Oh, so it's not just me who was underwhelmed by Howl's Moving Castle! I agree about the pacing, and after a while I just couldn't follow the plot at all. I do want to read the book it's based on though, I think it's quite different to the film but hopefully it would give me a better grasp of the overall story, and then maybe I'd enjoy the film more if I rewatched it afterwards.
@TheJGG@Dogorilla I'm also not the biggest fan of Howl's Moving Castle for similar reasons. Out of all of Studio Ghibli's movies, it's on the lower end of my list, and I've seen almost every one of their films. It has poor pacing, a confusing plot, a conflicting message, and a rushed ending where everything somehow gets resolved at breakneck speed. The continual shoehorned anti-war theme throughout the movie is my biggest gripe, and what I've learned about it outside of the film made me dislike it more.
For anyone in the unknown, the movie originally wasn't going to have anything war-related but was altered for a specific reason. Back in 2003, Miyazaki got very upset about United States' invasion of Iraq. So much so that he changed the second half of the movie in the middle of production to add an anti-war message. The book does have a war in it, but barely gets cited since it isn't important to the story. So Miyazaki used the tiny bit of dialogue that mentions war and used it as an excuse to become a big focus of the film. This explains all the flick's pacing and writing issues.
Link-Hero in particular, you got it to a tee. It's really bizarre how the movie has this war going on the whole time yet it has nearly no impact on the story at all. Sure, Howl gets summoned under two aliases to fight for two different countries but I dunno. The "breakneck speed" is also spot on, and it kinda ruins the movie.
Miyazaki's own personal feelings ended up overriding and hurting the film, and I believe the anti-war message is more subtle and more beautiful in The Wind Rises. I think that's his third-best film behind Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. @Sunsy Kiki's Delivery Service is marvellous and made me laugh so much. Not even that hard! But it was incredibly easy to appreciate the messages of the film, independence prominently.
@Kermit1 Nah, Hollywood isn't that special as there are dirty old men all over the world. Just look at this forum with alot of people into nosebleed underage schoolgirl anime which is completely normalized to them.
I really do think marvel is thinning themselves way to much, and For some reason so many scenes are cgi, not everything needs to be, and I loved it when marvel mixed the two, but now everything has to be cgi, and then they want to do a million different projects at the same time, so odd.
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

So I saw Hellraiser (the old one, not the new remake) as I somehow missed it although I'm pretty sure I've watched one of the various sequels as a kid which left a meh impression as it was just silly torture porn but I found the first one to be fairly decent.
I'm not sure I'd call it dated as it seems like it had rough edges even back then. It's gone for more unsettling rather than scares and gore (although it does go in hard for gore when it does) however it just can't escape the rubbish wooden acting from being a cheap flick. I'm curious as the cinematography is flat a lot of the times but when the creepy stuff it does look a lot better so was that intentional? It has this odd feeling to it as it's clearly a British film by they have tried to make it ambiguous so it could pass as American but it just makes confusing and to be rejected by both countries rather then passable as either British or American.
Pinhead and the cenobites are awesome, just visually wow plus the details like the chatting teeth really make them. Their introduction where Pinhead talks about them being demons to some and angels to others made me want more of them as they used sparingly to keep them effective so I can see why there's tons and tons of sequels.
@jump
It's an odd one. Barker is on record as stating he didn't have a clue as to what he was doing, which explains the flatness of the film and also the really cheesy dissolves and wipes between scenes.
It sounds like the sex scenes were heavily cut by the distributors so I think that put the film out of balance, as it skews it towards being a scary monster film, rather than a really mental romance.
It does have the feel of a cheap British film (as that's what it is!), but the lack of identifying marks is quite funny - same way that early Cronenberg films refer to "North America" rather than just Canada, in the hope of wider distribution. I wonder if Ben Wheatley had this in mind when doing Kill List (along with Ken Loach and the Wicker Man)?
I think the voice of Pinhead is pitched down. I sampled it years ago and messed with the voices, and when you pitch him up a little, he sounds fairly normal. Pitch him up a little too much and it turns into a comedy!
I've only seen the first, but an ex was really into the series and it seems like the others are quite different - more like trad horror movies than a very bizarre love story.
Yeah, I could see a bit of a tussle behind the scenes for making it as straight of a horror film as possible. It could of done with abit more exploration of being a sadistic loverboy which seems to be Frank and the cenobite crew's deal.
These films do really seem to really catch people's imagination. My Aunt as a huge pinhead tattoo for example. It can almost certainly be thanked the cenobites for as they are cool concept. I'm in two minds about watching the sequels as I do want more of Pinhead and the gang but I suspect the sequels are just plain terrible. I vaguely remember one I saw when I was 12ish (so I'm probably gonna get it wrong) about a club owner who sleeps with women and then summons the cenobites to torture the girls once he's done with them or something like that and if they are all like that then I would just get bored of them.
@Rambler I’ve always wanted to watch that 90s Fantastic Four film.
Yeah Clive Barker is someone I’ve always wanted to read too but I never got round to it. I have played his Undying game though. I probably should as Hellraiser and Candyman (which is based on his book) but have some really interesting concepts in them so I’m probably missing out as I imagine he would be less filtered in book form.
The Munsters on Netflix, felt like a parody of the show, which is weird to say since the show is a parody of monsters. My mom and I thought it was alright. It was a fun movie, but not one I'd rush out to see. Was kind of neat it the movie was made into a prequel, and two of the surviving members had vocal cameos (Butch Patrick and Pat Priest, who played Eddie and Marilyn respectively).
Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney+, Mom and I loved this one. It was fun seeing the witches again. Had a few twists I didn't see coming, some ridiculous ideas like using a Roomba like a Witch's broom, a new witch character I didn't even see coming, even a post credits scene. Fun movie too, and liked it more than the Munsters.
Bedknobs and Brooksticks on Disney+, ok, this movie was awesome! Haven't dived into the live action Disney catalog much, and mom and I never saw this one and we both loved it. Tells the story of three kids in England, being watched by Miss Price, played by Angela Lansbury, during World War II. Nice story with some cool animated scenes and some effects. When the bad guys come, things got exciting, like Miss Price casting a spell to use armor of knights to stop the invasion of the bad guys, it was exciting and satisfying to watch. Also, was getting excited towards the end of the animated scenes. I was like "the lion is gonna find out you have the star, run, run, RUN!!!!"
@Kermit1 Excellent movie my dude. Great Thanksgiving one too!
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
