@Maxenmus You're right, I hadn't read that post and apologize for "jumping down your throat" I actually have encountered people who hate on RoP for race swapping though and just find it ridiculous lol. (I actually would watch it if you have Prime though, Galadriel can be a little Mary Sue-y, but that's just one storyline and it's very faithful to the Tolkien-verse. I quite like it as of now. As Argyle of Stranger Things says "Try before you deny!")

Games I'm playing right now:
OoT N64
DK64 N64
Lego LotR Wii
Spirit Tracks DS
TotK Switch

Let's be even more honest, with Disney, the end goal has always been about making big loads of money off since Walt Disney died.

Ugh. Yep. It's really just gross sometimes.

As an example, I didn't have a problem at all with The Princess and the Frog, because not only was it a return to traditional animation like Disney used to do, but it featured an original take on an existing fairy tale with a black princess instead of recasting an existing Disney movie character with a different race. You know that they're just virtue-signaling to get people to buy their tickets, right? lol Stop pretending like Disney cares about your diversity.

Edit:
I read a comment that said, "As a ginger, I'm NOT okay with Hollywood erasing gingers from prominent roles. From Jimmie Olson and Wally West to Mary Jane Watson and Little Orphan Annie, show me where I'm wrong?" This is just sad. I would hate it if blondes have their Barbie doll replaced with a brunette or something and people say, "This is the new Barbie now. Your old blonde representation no longer matters."

This is why replacing existing roles with a different race always creates issue - you're erasing someone else's representation instead of creating new ones.

You mean the prince from the '90s Cinderella? It's Paolo Montalban. I've seen him in Mortal Kombat: Conquest (the '90s TV spin-off of the movie).

Why does this thread and the TV Shows one always seem to veer off-topic into race discussions? 😕

@Mioaionios We should change the subject. I watched American History X, Mississippi Burning, A Time To Kill and The Colour Purple today, has anyone else seen and wish to discuss them?

@jump
I'm afraid I'm not mentally strong enough right now to discuss such heavy films.
I saw Schindler's List again about 2 months ago and it's still crawling under my skin.

@Rambler A Time To Kill is good but not a classic. The top notch cast give good performances and it's largely remembered for the closing speech in court, which is both silly and powerful.

Oi racist, jury. Imagine something horrible happening to some black kids, now plot twist, imagine those black kids are white! That sorts you out racist jury because that's how I think too!

Still there's a few clever bits to it and worth a watch.

Funnily enough, as well as those people being racist, they are historically ignorant as well
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z8gpm39

Funnily enough, most of the criticisms aren't even racist or talking about skin color, but the writing of the show. It's Amazon and Stans like yourself who defend them that keep using the race card as an excuse to churn out bad writing and then immediately call ANY critics racist. So typical, these days, not to mention insulting to black people, having your entire race used as an excuse by a billion dollar corporation to defend their poorly-written show so they could make money. If Rings of Power replaced white characters with Asian actors, I'd still call them out on their writing as an Asian myself. Hell, the Star Wars sequel trilogy had an Asian actress, and the movies still sucked, not because they had an Asian actress, but because the writers and Hollywood execs have no idea how to make a good movie anymore.

Remember when OJ got scot-free because they used the race card? You're racist if you think this man is a criminal. Same hypocrisy, just in a more extreme context.

@Rambler That sucks, he was still making films recently too. I always liked Every Man For Himself, Contempt and Breathless.

It's just a shame he will never make a Hollywood blockbuster which is the only thing that matters in movies!

Core blimey Love and Thunder was bad.

You know those commercials where you get a few seconds of fake movie, and then someone yells cut and the actor either walks off the side of the set or the camera zooms out to reveal it is a set or whatever? That is how this felt, the entire time. Like any second someone would yell cut, Chris Hemsworth would remove his wig, walk off the side to the buffet table and talk to me about insurance or something.

Just all of it felt so artificial, so stiff, so cheap. It was like everything was shot in a cupboard in front of a greenscreen like early 2010 YouTube shows. Often the editing in scenes was really jerky so it kept pulling me out of the movie. The dialogue and general delivery were simultaneously so bad and so awkward, it felt like a parody rather than a movie. The wigs. My God the wigs. Russell Crowe doing that vaguely racist accent in a scene that felt like it lasted for a thousand years which ultimately didn't really add anything. Like the lightning bolt, but they never really explained any of that stuff properly. Just like how they shoehorned in Mjolnir killing Jane even though that desperately needed explanation. They brought Bale in to play a weird Pitch Black knockoff where it felt like 99% of his scenes to give his villain any context were cut given how threadbare the stuff was in the actual movie.

Just my God, truly awful. I have to imagine they added the Korg V/O in post, so the MCU has a way out of just removing this from canon.

I actually want to watch that film now! That second paragraph properly made me laugh!

I am not going to lie, it did keep me watching all the way through, as I just thought there had to be some sort of twist to explain why it all felt so plastic. But sadly, no twist ever arrives.

Btw - just to clarify my point above - I was talking about mediaeval Britain, and how some folk who do not know British history got their pitchforks in a twist when they found out that there were non-white people living there.
https://www.gresham.ac.uk/watch-now/blacks-britannica

Just admit you're wrong already. We are talking about Middle-Earth, not Britian and the last time I went to Middle Earth there was nothing but white people there!!!

I saw Neil Geiman arguing with someone on twitter about this, this random person is angry at Neil for ruining that new Lords of Power Metal show for including non-white people despite not working on the show and pointed out descriptions ripped from the book are of a tanned skin people or something. I would post the tweet but that sounds like effort.

Also lol for me bringing up movies about racism which inspire less debate on race than the sillyness of Disney and The Return of The Towering Fellowship of Metal Rings.

I think there's a good chance this movie will sweep next year's Oscars.

@Mioaionios It's coming out at a sweet time, right around (US) Thanksgiving time. A time where most awards films do well (sometime).

Spielberg is a great director. He's the most prominent name in my Top 30 movies of all time.

@Mioaionios That trailer reminded me of HUGO, which is a freaking masterpiece.

Spielberg I'd say does pop up in my top 30 too, but not as much as some other directors.
