@Anti-Matter
Your best bet would be finding a universal Blu-ray player.
Sony and Panasonic still make them but they're becoming increasingly rarer.
Physical media is dying and so are its dedicated players.
While streaming/digital is certainly dominating, Blu-Ray players (even region free models) are plenty to be had (at least on Amazon), and I can't think of any of the major studios that are skipping out on physical releases (I think Disney is reportedly trying to scale back, at least on 4K discs, but Turning Red is available on Blu-Ray at my local Wal-Mart & I just seen a commercial for Multiverse of Madness' BD release, so they're not abandoning the medium yet). Granted, things might be different for streaming exclusive properties, but they'd obviously have ulterior motive for skipping a physical releases.
It's still possible to buy music CDs of all things, so I don't think physical media will ever fully go away.

@RR529
The fact is that physical media sales are dropping around 20% year over year.
CDs only amount to 4% revenue of the music industry. They're still around, but the market has become tiny compared to 10 years ago. The same is happening to DVD and Blu-ray sales.
Streaming is overtaking everything.
Watched My 8Bit Christmas last night, its a nice little story of a Dad explaining to his daughter the lengths he took to try and get a NES for Christmas 1987.
It has lots of references about the Power Glove and how kids back then were obsessed with it.
Was not bad really, some quite funny bits and even my wife liked it and she hates computer games.
@Kermit1 Heavy disagree with the "lowest common denominator trash" comment. I've seen Secret Life of Pets, the new Addams Family, and Angry Birds 2, honest opinion, I think they're good movies, even if they're on the fun side. If I think they're good, I'm not going to call them "trash." Heavy disagree there, just because it's popular doesn't mean it's automatically "trash." Funny, this kind of ties into the conversation from Chit-Chat yesterday.
Mirai, Mary and the Witch's Flower, A Silent Voice and Okko's Inn are actually some non-mainstream movies (for lack of a better phrase), I liked. I even own the latter two on Blu-Ray/DVD. All of those are traditionally animated, but also they're anime movies (again, lack for a better phrase). Which has a niche audience AFAIK, while something like Disney is well known with the masses.
He is right though, if you want these kinds of movies, you need to look for them and support them. Problem is, I don't see those other movies advertised often, the only two standing out is Boxtrolls and Coraline. I saw a poster to Boxtrolls at a theater once.
Also, maybe it's just me, but I notice those who complain about "CalArts" mostly just complain about western animation, and don't go looking for other shows or movies to watch. At least from what I've observed online. Then again, I'm open to a lot of animated stuff and love family friendly stuff the most so who knows, maybe I just enjoy stuff I watch.
@RR529 Yup, Turning Red is on Blu-Ray/DVD, I own it and Luca. FWIW, I still buy movies I like that I see over streaming services. I seen Turning Red and can watch it anytime on Disney+. Will admit, streaming to physical is very rare. Looking at Netflix DVDs, all I have is season one of Stranger Things and Trolls: The Beat Goes On on DVD. I did get mom Coming 2 America on Blu-Ray for Mother's Day, which is a Amazon Prime movie.
I always buy movies I like, gives me the option to watch them without needing to be online, or relying on streaming services. I don't see myself stopping buying physical movies or shows, even if I have several streaming services.
Following on from last week, I watched Conan the Destroyer this morning.
It was decent, though I think I prefer the first. It definitely has a bit of a quicker pace (and shorter runtime), which I think helps it compared to how slow the first could be at times, however I think it overall feels more pedestrian. The set up is very run of the mill fantasy fate (steal a magical jewel from a wizard's castle, etc.), they've added more humor (and removed nudity) to maybe make it seem more palatable as a mainstream appeal, and it completely removes the mysticism from the magical elements (most sorcery in this movie boils down to someone quickly waving their arms to lift a door or spark a fire, which is a step down from the elaborate set ups in the first film, such as the snake transformation or the nightmarish scene where spirits were trying to drag Conan to death).
I will say it has a more exciting climax than the original, with a pretty cool monster.

Darn that new Daredevil show is going to have 18 episodes... I might be up for one more MCU thing then.
18!? I can barely get through the 6-7 most other Disney+ Marvel shows have most of the time! Mamma mia.....

@Sunsy same, I thought he kept it pretty straight on what he was trying to say. That video was from 2 years ago and he's gotten a lot better with his scripted opinions. I highly (highly) recommend his UPA 3 part series. It was amazing.
I went to see a movie last night, came home and jumped into this thread about 25 pages back, expecting to see the film in question getting some coverage, but only one person has mentioned thinking about seeing it, and the rest of it is pretty much just Pixar chatter 🥸
Fwiw, The Good Dinosaur and Toy Story 4 are both fairly recent films that have frogged my throat/had me welling up. I was watching The Good Dinosaur with my daughter, she was probably 5 or 6 at the time. The film got to the particularly touching bit and I was there, trying to hold it together so my lil girl wouldn't see me mushy, and she turned to me with tears in her eyes, saying something about it making her sad, or her eyes watering or something, and seeing her like that for the first time pushed me over the edge - a memorable moment, even if the film overall isn't particularly special in the list of Pixar films.
Anyway... this film I watched last night that I was expecting to see plenty of comments about... Top Gun: Maverick... I finally got to seeing, having only heard good things, seen 5 stars on the poster, and seeing it running at the cinema for week after week, I had reasonably high expectations. And...
...was disappointed. Now, while I am an 80s kid, I'm no Top Gun hardcore fan, I've probably only seen it a few times in my life, but whenever the most recent time was (years rather than months ago), I feel like the film still stood up as a Tom Cruise classic.
Watching Top Gun: Maverick just makes you think, 'I'd rather be watching Top Gun'.
TG:M is just a bit more serious in tone, less of a good time, doesn't have that slickness to it, and most of the good moments tend to be when it is harking back to the original film. Some of the dialogue was particularly patchy to me, and the macguffin aspect of the film was too generic and lacking emotional investment. Then the climax got a bit silly. Just found the plot in general a bit weak.
Visually it's pretty good, though not as omg-amazeballs as the early reviews would have you think. But it does a good job of hiding its visual fx - often CGI still stands out as CGI, but I watched TG:M happily suspending disbelief and not knowing what was a real sequence and what was vfx.
On first viewing... 6.75/10.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@gcunit
After I watched Toy Story 4, I was disappointed to see the ending that looks like a cliffhanger as it didn't really need the separation between Woody and his friends like that.
I assumed if there will be Toy Story 5, I wanna see Andy grew up become adult, getting married, having a kid that will get the toys from Andy's childhood, Woody and his friends reunite again, living together with Andy's kid. That's how to end the story properly.
@Anti-Matter Woody got to stay with the love of his life, which, I think he deserves, he has been there thick in thin for his owner, and now this new kid doesn’t even play with you, he looked out for her anyway, he can now spend time, making many kids and toys happy, and it was with the person he loves.
Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

@Snatcher
I was wondering, if Pixar will make Toy Story 5, what kind of abandoning way of the toys will be?
Toy Story 2 = garage sale
Toy Story 3 = donation to kindergarten school & Andy's cousin
Toy Story 4 = antique shop (the unwanted toys in sale)
Toy Story 5 = ???
@Snatcher Yeah, I mostly agree with what you said. In fact, I remember when Toy Story 4 was announced, I told myself when I first saw the trailer was that the only way they're gonna be able to push the story further than Toy Story 3 is if they have Woody contemplating on a philosophical level a life more than being a toy. It's a good concept on paper, and while I did have my issues with TS4, I do like what they tried to do.
I still rank TS4 the 2nd weakest of the franchise though, just above TS1. Maybe even below TS1.
@Maxenmus 4 Definitely did have its problems, tho I think overall, they made it work. I have no idea where I would place the movie on a list but it would probably be close to your ranking of it, tho It might be the first weakest, because I do like the first toy story because it was different I think, but woody was a jerk so idk.
@Snatcher@RR529 Surprisingly I was going to mention this, but funnily enough, I got reminded IMDB TV existed thanks to my mom watching Judy Justice. I thought FreeVee was a new thing, then I saw an ad for it with Amazon's name attached to it. I forgot about IMDB TV.
