Watched Chappie last night for the first time after for some reason sleeping on it for ages. Was actually pretty good, certainly better than I was expecting. The sort of movie where I'm willing to forgive some of the slightly rough "science" in it given the tone. It's a movie that doesn't take itself very seriously, which is why it works
And the CG is basically invisible, which is super impressive

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
So watched the first Thor movie, since I'm going to see Thor: Love and Thunder with my friend soon, might as well watch the others. I liked it even if it felt slow at times. Though, while I'm not familiar with Thor, I'm more of a cartoon fan than a superhero one, I had a feeling his brother was going to be bad from the start. Just sensed some jealousy during the opening. I liked I also guessed Jane was going to fall in love with Thor.
That's one movie down, two more to go before Thursday.

This is an unpopular opinion but I don't like the first Thor movie, I think it's the worst of the bunch really.
A big reason for that is the awful cinematography. Over 80% of the shots are dutch angles. It looks horrible and I don't care for it one bit.
@seaboyluca Fair enough. My only problem I had was the pacing of it. Hope the sequels pick up a bit. Wanted to get familiar with the movies before I go on Thursday, so going through them.

Will do!!
I remember ages watching some random 60s film that had loads of fancy shots, including Dutch Tilts, and was utterly perplexed as to why they were there. It seemed to indicate that the director wanted them in there to make the film look classy, but didn't have an actual reason to put them in.
Wish I could remember which film it was. British, with a bit set on a train (I think)
@Rambler
The Ipcress File?
Dutch angles can be used effectively to make a scene more dramatic, but only sparingly.
When overused like in Thor it looses all its effectiveness and just becomes annoying.
@SunsyA Dutch angle (known as a Dutch tilt, canted angle, or oblique angle) is a type of camera shot that has a noticeable tilt on the camera's “x-axis.”
@seaboyluca
Nah, it's also not From Russia with Love. It was very much a B-movie derivative of quality spy films.
Overuse of any technique indicates a potential lack of understanding in direction and narrative. Looks like Kenneth Branagh directed it? Hmmm
@Kermit1
I did find something vaguely interesting about Dutch angles recently, which makes sense when you think about it.
The term come from German Expressionist films, so the term "Dutch" is a corruption of "Deutsch", the same way the Pennsylvania Dutch are descendents of German settlers.
