@seaboyluca A24 pretty much don't exist where I live. I don't think I've ever seen a A24 film, but Marcel the shell is on my list of must sees this year.

I own 2 NECA Back to The Future figures and the trilogy on DVD so I don't think I can talk about not liking Back to The Future. I've spent too much...

I envy you. I want to see that movie so badly but unfortunately A24 movies have a hard time getting theatrical releases in my country. If they do, they're usually already available on digital or streaming elsewhere.

I know the feeling. Their films tend not to be released in Singapore either because of their mature and controversial subject matter. But that's why I'm glad streaming services exist.

@Maxenmus Ah, adult subject matter like the one with the sheep kid set in the mountains (that has a real sheep in it, I think) I've never seen it so I could be miss remembering things from a review I saw.

@Kermit1 Yeah, or like "The Witch" or "Midsommar". I also like those films because of their horror subject matter though, especially when they differentiate themselves intellectually from your bargain-bin slashers like Friday the 13th, or as Scream 5 calls it, "Elevated Horror." lol

@Maxenmus... I'm not really a fan of horror and I will not go further because I'd just be treading the same water again.

But I don't films shouldn't have scary moments.

@Kermit1 Yeah, that's understandable. I grew up cynical, so I tend to embrace horror films and stories more easily, I guess. lol I love stories that explore the dark side of human nature. Like I said, I'm cynical.

@Maxenmus....... Would you consider The Dark Crystal to be scary?

Maxenmus

@Kermit1 I would think so. I've never watched it, but I have often heard it's "too scary for kids." I might watch it someday.

@Maxenmus The Netflix prequel show is 10/10 darker than the original but is kinda a meh show tbh.

Which is something most people would say about most Netflix shows these days, unfortunately. The streaming service is going downhill. Meanwhile, HBO Max is still reigning on top because of its Warner Brothers DC films/TV shows.

@Maxenmus I'd give the show a 10/10 for the puppets and sets though they were why you should watch the show.

In Canada we have Crave which is the same to HBO max it just has a different name.

I'm also waiting for Marcel the Shell to come to cinemas here. If it doesn't get a widespread cinema release I don't mind waiting for the DVD, but I'm not even sure that will happen, as there's no sign so far of Everything Everywhere All At Once (another A24 film) and the Bob's Burgers Movie getting DVD releases in the UK even though they're already out in the US. Normally films made for cinema release always come out on DVD to my knowledge, so I've no idea what the hold-up is for those two.

@Dogorilla
Unfortunately less and less movies are getting a physical release.
Indie movies in particular are having a very tough time finding publishers.
Sales are dropping year after year, mostly because streaming services have become so popular.
Physical media is dying a slow death.

@seaboyluca Yea, recently The Beatles: Get Back series got a shadow release on Blu-Ray and DVD. It's becoming very rare and I'm trying to track down a copy because that is one of the only shows where you feel like a fly on the wall and get to see the creative minds of The Beatles.

Haven't watched many A24 films, but I enjoyed the few I watched.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy there.

@seaboyluca Yeah, it's a shame to see the decline in physical media's popularity. But as I said, the vast majority of major films do still come out on DVD, so I'm surprised a popular film like Everything Everywhere hasn't in the UK. Hope it gets a release later on. I don't really use paid streaming services, I prefer to buy things on DVD/Blu-ray if I really want to watch them.

@Kermit1 Would you recommend Get Back? I like the Beatles but I'm not a hardcore fan so I don't know how entertaining I'd find it to sit through eight hours of rehearsal footage.

@Dogorilla It's one of the greatest things I've ever seen done in TV and film. As a viewer you go through the same pain as the band is going through, and all the rehearsing leads up to an amazing third episode that feels like a concert the only way film knows how and an amazing goodbye to The Beatles. #RELEASETHE18HOURCUTMRJACKSON

If you have 8 hours or want to watch it in pieces it's amazing!
