The Lion King was boring for being too similar as the cartoon version.
I think the opposite of the problem. They tried so hard to make this movie realistic that they got rid of any character these animals had. Now they're just talking animals like in those bad talking dog movies.
Oh, and the celebrity castings, it's almost like they purposely chose the absolute worst voice actors for these characters. Like what even was Scar's voice!?
If Mulan is worse than this, I'll be absolutely impressed, because The Lion King remake is absolutely terrible, and there's no reason to even watch it anymore, since the far superior animated version is available in more places and is cheaper since it's older. I even really liked the musical. How they screwed up a remake this bad is beyond me.
@HotGoomba
The matchmaker scene from Mulan cartoon version was way hilarious to watch than the live action movie version.
The pandemic in year 2020 was saved me for not watching Mulan 2020.
Not Disney movies but Dora the explorer live action movie was really bad and cringey.
I put a facepalm when Dora started to sing toilet song and digging a hole for poo. 🤦♂️
Oh no, forgot about that one, never watched it, but it just looked mediocre. It actually got better reviews than I expected, but doesn't mean I care 😀
And while we're talking Nickelodeon, the SpongeBob films just got worse with each one.
The first one, one of the best animated films of all time.
Sponge out of Water, it was ok, I do appreciate some smaller things with the movie, and there were things I flat out hated, but overall, it was fine.
Sponge on the Run, one of the most disappointing films I've ever seen. The animation is spectacular, but the writing and clear advertisement for the Kamp Koral series made this just bad. This had SO much potential, but in the end, it actually made me appreciate Sponge out of Water even more than before.
@HotGoomba
I know, right?
I only watched Dora 2019 movie once and never want to watch again after saw some cringey parts that made me embarrassed to watch.
Oh, btw. How was Sonic 2 movie?
I haven't watched Sonic 2 movie.
I only watched the first movie 2 years ago right before pandemic started to spread in my hometown and it was quite good movie.
I didn't have any interest in the Dora movie until I saw all those positive reviews which made me interested enough to check it out for myself. And you know what? I enjoyed it. Yes, it's cheesy at times, but also very charming and funny. It was a pleasant surprise.
About those Disney live action remakes though... I'm generally speaking not a fan. I liked The Jungle Book because it was so different from the original, but Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King were almost shot for shot remakes that served no purpose.
Aladdin was passable because it did some things different but it was nowhere near as good as the original. Mulan was a travesty, it went completely against the message of the original.
One outlier is the remake of Pete's Dragon. The original wasn't animated aside from the dragon so I can't put it in the same category as the other remakes but I really love this one. I thought it was much better than the original. It was charming, emotional and well acted.
It was directed by David Lowery, who also made The Green Knight, and is now working on the remake of Peter Pan called Peter & Wendy. Because of his earlier work, I'm hopeful for this one.
The same can't be said for the Pinocchio remake by Robert Zemeckis. But that's mostly because I'm not a fan of his recent work. Ever since The Polar Express back in 2004 his directorial efforts have been very underwhelming in my opinion.

Interestingly, there's three Pinocchio projects coming in 2022. The god awful Lionsgate one, the claymated one, and the Disney live-action remake.
@HotGoomba
Not claymation exactly, but stop-motion by Guillermo Del Toro. I'm looking forward to that version because Del Toro is one of my favorite directors. He made The Shape of Water and Pan's Labyrinth among many others.

Ooh that sounds really interesting!
Have you seen the Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb? It's up there with the Brothers Quay and Jan Svankmajer for stop-motion brilliance.
I thought the Lion King remake was really technically impressive (worth a watch at least once), but yeah, it just doesn't have the soul of the original animated version.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@RR529 These days any company can make a really realistic animated movie. Not saying they're not cool or anything, but it's really not enough anymore to have an animated movie stand out.
Animated movie should have unique artstyles and animation in order to stand out. Spider-Verse, Turning Red, Luca, the upcoming Puss in Boots film, they all have unique or stylized animation.
I want a CGI animated film to do something artsy not realistic for once, look a "real" tree made with CGI. Not look a giant pinky-redish-yellow tree with birds as leaves, and a magic elf made of bronze pipes under it singing the William Tell Overture like a flute.

I watched that Adam Sandler/Netflix basketball film, Hustle, last night. Typical Netflix fare - thoroughly underwhelming. Nobody did anything particularly wrong, it just lacked that emotional punch that, while entirely predictable, is still kinda necessary in a sports flick. Two hours wasted.
@Rambler I've seen Uncut Gems. Thought it had decent intensity and was interesting enough, but I found the ending to be quite unsatisfying and rendered the whole film kinda a pointless watch. Not one I'd recommend to others.
Happy Gilmore though. That's a classic.
@HotGoomba I've not seen Grown Ups from start to finish, but I recall stumbling across it one night so kept it on, assuming there had to be a few gags in there I'd appreciate, but I seem to remember just finding it devoid of any merit at all. I am not a tough crowd when it comes to comedy, but Grown Ups didn't ever even seem to reach mediocre. Glad you enjoy it though.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@jump Your joy-con really drifts towards McConaughey eh?
I suspect you're joking, but for the benefit of the audience, I never said I won't watch McConaughey, just that nothing's ever particularly drawn me towards his work - our stars just haven't quite aligned.
