Topic: Is Sega the one to blame for the existence of Console War?

After seeing Sakurai having Sony consoles at his home and Druckman being a Nintendo fan, I thought about something: the three big ones, are above console War, and never meant it to happen in the first place. Fans are to blame for it.... or they aren't? I think that the origin of this stupid thing must be searched during the 90s.

During those years, Sega advertised their console by insulting Nintendo with stupid slogans ("Sega does what Nintendon't"). People have fallen for it, and started sg on Nintendo for no reason. Then eventually, after Sega stopped doing consoles, most of them moved to Sony, and carried on their "legacy" by still sh****ng on Nintendo but on Sony's side, and passed it to other people like a contagious virus that neither the COVID. If Sega didn't start this thing in the 90s I think none of this would happen nowadays... you saw how developers of the three actually are to each other. They are way above this s***. Fans are to blame for the Console War nowadays, but it's Sega who started it all, so it's their fault if the internet is full of toxic fanboys nowadays. This is my take on on the matter. What do you think? Is Sega the main responsable of this stupid movement? Or do you think I'm missing something?

Please. Man.
Just get over it. It’s because of toxic people like you. It’s becoming a pattern now every week you will make a thread about people have to respect Nintendo or they have to worship them or they have to go out and share its love with everyone about Nintendo.

What’s the next title of one of your forum discussions. I’m actually looking forward to it. 😀

Ninty vs Sega wasn't the first console war, this has been going on since the 70s and the tech industry has always been very competitive.

Well... I didn’t know about SEGA’s Nintendon’t slogan, but... really, Nintendo has enough support. Please stop this.

Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.

BlackKnight93

@jump I don't seem to see evidence that support that claim. Whatever happened in the 70s, it was forgotten with the times especially thanks to the global videogame crisis caused by Atari. Besides people who lived in that years might not even care for videogames anymore, let alone console wars. So I firmly believe that the one we have now is Sega's fault.

@LetsaGO Yeah, I'm the victim and yet I would be the toxic one. What part of "I CAN'T EXPRESS APPRECIATION OVER NINTENDO GAMES WITHOUT BEING ATTACKED BY WILD BEASTS" isn't clear to you? It might be also the fact that I live in a country where Nintendo is not well seem compared to the rest of the world, but honestly I don't like to feel like the only person in my place who still love Nintendo, it makes me feel alone... and I hate be alone....

Now, this is just a theory, but I think some of the people here are just annoyed because you have created this same thread (variations on "why do I get attacked for liking Nintendo?") At least six times already.

Bloop.

@BlackKnight93 ok I apologise. If making the same threads over and over again to get the same answers makes happy. All the best.

Shame on you sega. Bad sega. 😂

BabyYoda71

@BlackKnight93 We’re not criticizing you for liking Nintendo. We all like Nintendo here. You just keep making threads asking why you’re being criticized for liking Nintendo when nobody is criticizing you at all, on this website or elsewhere. It’s really unnecessary. Just know that nobody is criticizing you and haters are going to hate no matter what but ignore it.

Heigh Ho Heigh Ho. It’s off to work (from home) I go.

Ummmm they were the Intellvision/Atari console wars years before Nintendo and Sega. So to answer your question No Sega didn't start the whole console wars.

In fact wars between similar products have been around for years. Pepsi vs Coke, McDonalds vs Burger King, Chevy vs Ford, Mac vs Windows. I can go on and on.

So yeah creating a thread on baseless theories..... Well it's been awhile

<posts yet another stupid thread> I firmly believe that... blablabla... , yada, yada, yada, nag, nag, nag
<no facts, just baseless opinions>, whine, whine, whine. Etc., etc... ad infinitum...

Stop making stupid forum threads, don't post opinions as facts, and perhaps try and improve your English, so your posts are less annoying to read. What you "firmly" believe is total and utter BS, based on NOTHING except your own delusional opinion.

What it actually was, is simply just a marketing campaign, and you only mentioned one side of it, mentioning "stupid" Sega and their Nintendon't slogan. Nintendo had plenty of "edgy" campaigns of their own, back then. It was just how advertising was done back then, and even into the next generation: Sony basically did the same thing, making jokes about Nintendo still using cartridges, when they released the PSX. Does that also mean that Sony is "stupid"?

Another example of those days is the Commodore Amiga vs Sega campaign, a 16 bit home computer which was wildly popular in Europe, in the early 90s. In the UK, they had to gain a foothold against the Megadrive/Sega Genesis, and so they came up with a slogan "to be this good, will take Sega Ages".

Stupid Commodore, obviously...

The 90s console war is arguably the most well known console war, but it was also in a different time. Owning more than one console of the same generation wasn't nearly as commonplace as it is now and Nintendo and Sega were directly competing for that same space in peoples homes. There was a clear line in the sand between them and the marketing was intended to get the school yard talk going. It was hardly a one-sided thing either. Nintendo really upped their advertising against Sega and even did things like send VHS tapes to peoples homes that ended with an in your face ad about how you couldn't get stuff like DKC on Sega or 32X adapters. Sega wasn't even close to starting rabid fanboyism or the console wars. It ran just as rampant back then, there was just no internet. That didn't stop Nintendo from running anti-Sega ads and even anti-Sega fan letters written in to Nintendo Power. People crapped on Sega for no real reason just as much as it was the other way around.
Times have changed, it's far more commonplace to have multiple consoles in one household, companies are getting along better now and we as gamers are better off for it. Sony seems to be the only one really in that kind of mindset anymore and even still it's not as bad as it was back then.

I think you're missing a lot if you think the console wars started in the 90s, that Sega started them, that Nintendo was some innocent victim in them (and I say that as a 90s Nintendo fanboy) or that this rabid fanboyism toward a particular brand name wouldn't exist if the 90s console wars hadn't happened. That kind of fanboyism seems to be inherent to human nature. Ford VS GM. Coke VS Pepsi. Nike VS Reebok. Apple VS Android. The list could go on and on and on of the brand name rivalries that fans get caught up in.

@ThanosReXXX It's funny how you mentioned advertising was like that again. The moment you said that for some odd reason I remember the advertising skit fro Wayne's World. But you are right companies did that during that that. You had Pepsi the choice of a new generation which was a stab at Coke, Nuprian with it's Little Yellow Different campaign. So it just wasn't Sega.

Yes, they are. Sega's horrific war crimes were condemned by several nations and is why they aren't a console manufacturer anymore.

@Tasuki Yeah, there's literally truckloads of examples out there, in just about any product or service category that you can think of. It was the early 90s, when politically correct wasn't really a thing yet...

@kkslider5552000 Even worse: the Supreme Court of the United Nations initially banned them from making new consoles for 30 years, and only under the strictest of regulations were they recently finally allowed to manufacture and release the Sega Genesis Mini, but now they're back under restrictions again.

This and the fact that Sakuray has Sony consoles at his home, are the concrete evidence that Console War is a stupid ***** made up by fans, and that the big names never meant for it to happen in the first place. Fanboys are the actual curse of the gaming, they're ruining everything, and Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft themself can't do anything about it. Also, this is all Sega's fault: they started the console War in the first place back during the 16 bit era, and then after Sega stopped doing consoles, their fanboys moved to Sony and brought on their "legacy", ***** on Nintendo and Microsoft.
But I actually think there's more about this. Let me give you an accurate description of console War guys in Discord style: PATHETIC FANBOYS WHO INSTRUMENTALIZE THE VIDEOGAMES THEY LOVE TO HURT PEOPLE BECAUSE DEEP DOWN THEY KNOW THEY ARE WORTHLESS AND THEY WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE IN LIFE. And that is all.

This is a comment on an article on this website. Who do you blame for this, @BlackKnight93? SEGA or the fans? Your posts are becoming more and more confusing. NO. SEGA is not to blame. That’s how commercials were done back then!
