@LinkxPeach If you absolutely have to, use it of course. But learning to figure stuff out by context will help a lot. I'm not saying "don't use a dictionary" I'm saying don't rely on it for every word.

Another useful thing to practice, when it comes to speaking or writing, the production side of things, is learning how to describe something if you can't remember a word. In a real conversation, it's less than ideal to constantly pull out a dictionary. But if you can "talk around" the word you can still get your message across.

"One of my favorite foods is that round thing with cheese and tomato sauce. And sometimes pepperoni or pineapple." - With a sentence like this you can probably figure out I'm talking about pizza, right? Speaking like this helped me a lot while living in Japan. A lot of times it gets people to suggest what they think you mean for you too. Which helps a lot.

@Kirby_EU Like Anti already said, it does depend on the game. Games with a younger target audience are more likely to use it. Sometimes it's also used in games geared toward older audiences - if they want you to use an abnormal or uncommon reading of an otherwise common kanji. That's particularly common in fantasy and sci-fi titles.
