Topic: Have you ever "borrowed" anything and not given it back?

I was just looking at the 'what's your best investment' thread, and I started thinking: what's the most valuable thing you've ever borrowed from a friend (or otherwise) and never returned?

As for me, I'm not one who usually does stuff like that. Actually, I never do, but I had this friend (and roommate) a few years ago, who turned out to not be a friend afterall, and he was a rich kid who had more than he knew what to deal with, so I never returned his copy of MGS: The Twin Snakes, and later I realized it's being sold used for $35.

I don't lend my mates anything anymore. Not that I don't trust my closest mates, but the last couple things I've lent to some of my friends I've never got them back. One of them was Final Fantasy VIII, when I lent that to my friend, I asked for it back three weeks later, he had been on holiday the week before so I couldn't ask then. And what did he do? He lent it to his cousin in Cornwall! To my knowledge it's still there now.

And the "friend" had the cheek to get his OWN copy of Final Fantasy VIII and not give me mine back, what he should have done if not able to get the copy from Cornwall was give me that version. The thing is too I really do love that game and I'd really like it back, but I'm seeing it sold for at least £50.00, and I really don't have that much money to blow on a single game at the moment.

I always give back stuff. I hate borrowing in the first place, but its cheaper than paying for stuff 1 of my friends gets so obsessive over stuff and bugs me til I try it.

@Locke: Maybe they'll put it up as a PSOne Classic soon

Yep, I borrowed a copy of Wind Waker and gave it back after my friend sold his GameCube and he let me keep it.

Heh, interesting topic. I always return whatever i borrow as soon as i can, but over the years i have "inherited" quite a bunch of video games. Going way back, i "inherited" my friend's ColecoVision, with 2600 adapter and a buncha games, after he was rocking his NES, i borrowed the Coleco and he never cared about me giving it back. Same with a bunch of his NES games once he kind of fell out of console gaming in favor of PC. Then in college i ended up "inheriting" a Sega Genesis with a couple games after it was left behind at school by one of my friends. More recently, i inherited an XBox (original) after swapping with a friend for my Gamecube (for borrowing -- we each had games we wanted to play on the opposing system). After he gave back my 'Cube, he let me keep his XBox, as he got a new one (the old one was hacked and couldn't go online, which he cared about but i didn't).

I also inherited a bunch of games and stuff from my friends over the years. I also gave/lend a lot of stuff away, and some of them are still missing XD It's hard to keep track when people move on with their lives... but I would really like to know where's my KOTOR I and II :/

Let's see my TOP list:
(Time length) I have this SW book a friend lend a couple of years ago and he still keeps my GITS series
($ Value) A friend lend me his GH World Tour and the Wireless Guitar 6 months ago and I didn't returned yet. The problem is: he's always traveling (work)... right now he's in Canada (I'm in Brazil for now)
(Recent) I borrowed notes and a calculus IV book from a veteran at college, but this is going to be shipped back next week

Does it really sell for that much? I bought a copy of it a few years ago for about $16 (roughly £8). Too bad it freezes every time I get to this one point.

I hate it when people borrow and not return. It's never happened to me, and I've never done it myself, but I've known it happen to people. Years ago I had a friend who swapped some video games on a loan with another friend - he then sold them and had the cheek to ask for his back! I still find that unbelievable!

Anyway I do have some things of my dad's - DVDs mostly. He knows he can get them back any time though - infact, because of this thread, I'll make a special effort to return them all to him this weekend.

Cheezy

I actually rented the original Mario Party from Blockbuster. I loved it so much I kept it for another week, then a week after that. But, then, I totally forgot that I rented it and I ended up keeping it for a whole month and a half, but Blockbuster never called or mailed us to return it so I kept it and they never saw it again

I have never kept something I borrowed...in fact, I hate borrowing from friends, just because I hate remembering to return it. I have had it done to me plenty of times with DVD's. When I ask my friend about the DVD, they usually say, "hm...I dont know where it went" lol...then when they ask to borrow something else I just laugh.
