Topic: Do You Think Too Many People Jump to Conclusions?

Basically, I'm asking if you think some people have a bad tendency to assume the worst or hope for the best just from a tiny largely inconsequential piece of info or an event. For instance, there was the Pokemon direct that aired just a few weeks before E3. A lot of Nintendo fans assumed that all that would be announced at E3 were a bunch of Wii U ports when that obviously wasn't the case. Now this wasn't entirely their fault, there was a leak that mentioned a version of Sun and Moon for the Switch and that wasn't announced. there's also the fact that a lot of the press are assuming Monster Hunter XX isn't being released Westside when Capcom has never stated anything like that. My point is that everyone (press and fans alike) have a bad habit of getting overexcited due to anything. Due you agree or disagree with me?

Well it really depends on the person and other things. Many people try to guess and speculate what will happen during the event, it's part of the fun of E3. There were a lot of people that thought E3 was just Wii U ports, and there's also people were the exact opposite and thought Nintendo was going to announce a bunch of new games like Metroid, which did happen. This stuff will always happen and so I agree people sometimes do get overexcited but also don't get excited for say the New 2ds XL even though it's pretty cool and helpful for people who don't have a New 3ds or a 3ds at all. So what I'm trying to say is I don't think it's bad, hype is fun!

I seem to recall that when the Switch was announced and we got a very brief glimpse of Super Mario Odyssey, someone here complained that they didn't want another 3D Land style game.

What's the point of discussing something you know that little about, anyway? Personally I tend to not really talk about a game until it's released.

@BezBot There seemed to be hardly anyone online that thought the Switch would get new games after the Pokemon direct.

@Snaplocket Well I know there was many people like that but many people I saw thought E3 would have huge announcements like new Metroid and F-Zero games so like I said before it really depends on the person.

@BezBot To be fair, there was no new F-Zero announced, then again we got a new Star Fox just last year, so you can't really predict what Nintendo's gonna do.

Yes

Wait...what were talking about?

Oh! Basic human nature that all of us must fight to overcome, despite us never really being able to separate completely from it. Gotcha.

Metroid was nothing more than a 30 second GIF made in movie maker five minutes before their show went live. The real reveal will happen at E3 2019, when they announce the game is coming in 2020, before it gets delayed to 2021.

I agree with you!

@Octane You are aware that the bulk of game development happens behind the scenes and that Nintendo pretty much never reveals a game before they started development? Metroid Prime 4 is gonna be an early to mid 2019 release at the absolute latest.

@subpopz Glad to see you agree with me. I just don't like it when people jump to conclusions.

@CanisWolfred Guess you have a point there. Can't say I'm innocent of this but that doesn't mean I like it.

@Octane No it's really not. Even Brawl wasn't pushed back THAT much since it's initial announcement trailer. (First trailer debut in mid 2006, released early 2008)

I don't think that's "realistic" in that you don't necessarily have a lot of data to back that up. However, it is a cautious estimate that should likely hold back a venerable torrent of excitement.

@CanisWolfred So basically, he made an intentionally highly unlikely outcome so it would be more or less impossible to be dissapointed? I guess that's understandable.

@CanisWolfred My point with this thread is that you can't really predict what Nintendo (or any other company for that matter) is going to do. No one thought there would ever be Zelda content in Mario Kart, there is. Everyone thought Smash 4 would have an adventure mode, it didn't. No one ever even considered the possibility of two new weird IPs (Splatoon and ARMs) ever being a thing, let alone becoming major successes so quickly. This is the main reason why I DON'T THINK it's set in stone that we aren't going to get a new Mario Kart or Smash on the Switch. True, Nintendo never released more then one game per platform, but they never released a new console in the middle of a generation either. Nor did they have any successful new IPs before Splatoon since Pikmin and Warioware (the Wii series doesn't count). I'm just saying people shouldn't immediately believe they know what the conclusion is before there is any concrete evidence.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Some people on the internet are just content to whine. Such people are hard to please because they make it difficult (or impossible) to do so by setting crazy expectations. Overall they're a minority, but I don't need to point out how vocal minorities on the internet can be.

Leaks and rumors are sort of like a nosy kid digging into their Christmas presents before they're opened; the kid finds some of them not yet wrapped, and the surprise is ruined. The kid finds others that are already wrapped and shakes them, parts the wrapping on one a bit, sees a bit of text....It must be that big-name game they wanted, that they dreamed of getting!

Come Christmas Day, the surprise for many of the packages is ruined. While some of the guesses were accurate, remember that big package that was the game they wanted? Turns out that it was a piece of cash-grabbing shovelware with similar lettering.

@Tyranexx You aren't kidding about vocal minorities. I could easily make a list of over 10 vocal minorities that drive me nuts on gaming forums alone. It's also becoming harder and harder to avoid rumors when even professional news sites (like this one) put leaks front and center. Remember when the Smash 4 DLC was leaked just a few days before announcement and it was slapped right on Nintendo Life's home page in a huge, impossible to miss picture and headline?

By the way, did that thing about Christmas ever happened to you?

Yaaaas, people assume the worst insofar as it feeds into their often ignorant preconceptions. Is this even a question for anyone who has had any exposure to the online games yell box?
