fairly often I see threads about United States politics in some way or other, but I never see anything about the UKs political system in any form. Do you chaps just not talk about politics?
Why single out the UK? I guess that with your logic the rest of the world is 'just not very political'. Perhaps we just have the decency of not polluting a gaming forum with crap that doesn't belong here.

That's not very nice. Not to mention subjective. Anyway, I single out UK because this site is based in the UK, so it would make sense that they would be best represented. If I was someone from say, Haiti, and I tried to start a thread about Haitian politics...I don't think it would work out here.

But would that make Haiti a country that's 'not very political'? No, no it wouldn't.

5-10% of the U.S. Pop is probably actively political, the rest are probably apathetic. The reason why we don't hear about UK politicking is probably because no one cares about the details of another country's issue of the moment unless the country immediately effects our ability to operate.
Unless of course the new Hitler moves in or the leader doesn't get a long with our leader. blah blah blah.

@Firkraag First of all, that's why I'm asking the question. Secondly, my point is that Haiti is not well-represented on this site; UK is. That's why I'm asking why there aren't any threads about the British political system. And I refuse to accept it's because you "just have the decency of not polluting a gaming forum with crap that doesn't belong here."

I said perhaps it's like that, not for a fact.
We don't discuss taking a shower either, does that mean nobody takes a shower? Your original question is very illogical.

Why has this turned into an argument? I am not making a statement, I'm just asking a question: whether Brits are political or not. I'm not assuming anything. I'm just observing that there seem to be an awful lot of US threads, and no UK threads, and this is a UK-based site, so I found it to be a little odd.
Like many other topics around here it's a waste of space that's all.

I'd say replies like that are wastes of space. Let people talk about what they want to talk about. If a topic sticks to the forum rules, we're happy with it. Also, I for one do think this is an interesting topic of conversation.
I think though, that there is a lot of dissinterest in the political system over here - especially with young adults. There's just no real stand-out characters (apart from Borris Johnson, Mayor of London - I voted for him!) Truth be told, I don't think many people over here could pick out the principle differences between each party: we're plagued with a large proportion of our country suffering a bout of voting apathy; they see all politicians as the same.
Sky are trying an intersting move to have a live leaders' debate, which I think will be a good step forward. American politics seems to have much more of a mass appeal because of these debates (mind you, that's just my perspective as an outsider), so seeing them on our shores will be good.
Well, the US had a bit of a political reawakening last election (not just because of Obama) but Britain is still quite apathetic. Also we're quite boring. In the US curruption is buyng coke with taxpayer's money & then snorting it on hookers. In Britain it's claiming expenses for duck islands. Really.
Generally speaking we don't equate patrotism with political affiliation & our system is less partisan, so passions aren't stirred as much as in the US. Also, we have elections every 4-5 years, the US President has 2 years before they have to face mid-terms,.Our elections last about a month rather than a year. We're not bombarded with political messages as much.
Another aspect is simply that America is the world's premier power (for now at least). In the 19th century British politicians were the more famous figures, as Britain had an expansive empire.
I'll happily discuss UK politics, I do it in real life everyday and bore the pants off those I know. But, until we have a leader who has been elected by the public instead of by himself, there really is no point as I shall just fill it with angry discourse and get wound up. Grr!
Our elections last about a month rather than a year.
So your politicians are useless for a month (at least) while ours are useless for a year (at least!). I wish the US was more like GB in that regard. There should be a limit on how long one can campaign before the actual election.
I've always loved all the jeering that you can see in Britain's parliamentary addresses. It's very entertaining and something I wish were more mainstream here. Alternatively, the PHYSICAL conflicts that are seen in China's parliament, and a few others, are pretty amazing too. That's just the type of antics this circus of a government here needs in the US as it's the only thing that's still missing. ha
