I'm gonna start this off a little negatively but keep in mind this is merely my opinion. I despise Naruto (anime version): it is one the worst animes I have seen in the last few years, what with the DBZ-slow pace, poor animation, and worse dub. It's important to note that I think the manga is well-done, so it's not that they couldn't have done a better job. Shippuden is supposedly better, but it's a sign that people make a big deal of that when it takes 200+ episodes to get there.
Anime I like: Ghost in the Shell (anything), Death Note, Code Geass (Season 1), Welcome to the NHK, YuYu Hakusho, AFRO SAMURAI, and anything by Miyazaki that isn't Spirited Away.
edit 4/30/12: Title change to include manga
I don't know how much bad anime you watch, but Naruto's pacing is horrible, but the whole show is definitely not as bad to be that low on your list if you've watched lots of bad anime.
I apologize for bad word placement in my previous sentence.
If you like Yu Yu Hakusho, I think you'll like Hunter X Hunter. It's one of my favorite anime/manga of all time. The manga's details in terms of visuals are rather simple compared to many other manga, and rather charming at times. It doesn't fall into many of the cliches of other anime, and the characters are amazing.
The characters in Hunter X Hunter are great, but the pacing is horrible. There's too much build up, not enough pay-off, and it takes way too long to get to the action.
It was a nice story about opposites (the light hearted Sanae Nishiogi, and the bold Kaori Isoyama) developing a rivalry & friendship through their school's kendo club, over the course of a year.
It wasn't stunning, but it was a nice & recommended read nonetheless. (I'd say it's safe for all ages as well, despite it's classification as Seinen. There was no fanservice, bloodless action with an emphasis on good sportsmanship, and little in the way of bad language, although it's not entirely absent).
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
Fairy Tail is addicting with its formula. The way each episode ends in the middle of everything just makes you want to watch one more episode. It can be hard to pull yourself away if there isn't really something you need to take care of.
Well now that I'm done with Evangelion, I have in mind Cowboy Bebop, Code Geass, Mobile Suite Gundam, Ghost in the Shell Standalone Complex, Gurren Lagann, or SoulEater. Which one should I watch?
Anime watching: Mobile Suit Gundam, Lupin III, & Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable
Reading: The Golden Compass

My favorites from that list are Cowboy Bebop and Gurren Lagann, but I'd suggest rolling a dice. There really isn't a wrong choice in there.
