Bleach I love, but I can't place it higher than those, maybe .4 But then there's Fruits Basket, fantastic but completely different anime. Then I've got Attack on Titan and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet, both of which haven't finished airing. Then there's Birdy the Mighty Decode which I loved, but is most likely last on my short list.
Anime watching: Mobile Suit Gundam, Lupin III, & Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable
Reading: The Golden Compass
It's about humanity's struggles to survive against the Titans, giant humanoids who eat humans.
Well, specifically Eren Jaeger and his friends/comrades.

Hey guys, question.
A little while back I read detective Conan to check it out. I rather liked it(I was somewhere around chapter 120), but after a while I got a bit annoyed by how the story progresses, as in that it just didn't. After a while it seemed like one filler to another and consider me being quite patient but to me it felt like the series didn't know where it was going.
So I need some Conan experts on this to tell me what to expect from the series. Does it ultimately go somewhere or is it about reading stand alone crime scenes each time?
I have watched a bit. I've heard a ton of good things about it, but it ended up being...different from what I was expecting. More gloomy, I guess. I should continue with it someday, but at the time I needed something more uplifting.

The story does move forward, albeit usually very slowly.
though good luck if you're reading online scans. Some of the translations in the middle of the series are really bad. (the main reason I always suggest the anime over the manga)
If you're reading/watching Detective Conan to see how the greater overall plot (Conan's quest to investigate the Black Organization and regain his old body) progresses, you're probably not going to get a whole lot out of it. It's a much more episodic series than most other manga/anime.
The "point" of Detective Conan is really to witness the group of charismatic lead and recurring characters solve a nearly endless series of mind-bending crime mysteries. And it's brilliant at it.

I tried moving over to scanlation's once I read through all of the Case Closed volumes in my sister's library. It was brutal.
I'm positive that the translator's first language was not English. It probably wasn't even their second language, either.
