Topic: Anime & Manga (NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

Oh I recently bought the volume 1 - 8 of One Piece and they just so happened to arrive at this moment. I just unboxed them, this is pretty exciting!

Had much anime experience?

That's funny, my school was actually the opposite. Although, my school had a big DotA/LOL/SC2 crew, so I bet they didn't have much time for Nintendo. A group of the girls in my grade played Pokemon socially, but I wouldn't really have called them Nintendo fans.

Well yeah, teenagers tend make fun of stuff they see as "kiddie". It's just what they do, and has no bearing on whether or not Nintendo is a mainstream entity in our society.

Everyone & their grandmother knows who Mario & Pikachu are, something I don't know I could say for even Goku (although I'd imagine DBZ is the most mainstream anime in existence).

I mean, it speaks volumes when you walk through Wal-Mart, and see Nintendo (usually Mario) graphic tees alongside entities such as Family Guy, South Park, Star Wars, and Batman. (the same can be said for school supplies, where there are Mario Kart Wii backpacks sharing the same space as Cars and such)

the last anime series to really become mainstream in any serious way would be Naruto. Like the gap in popularity in terms of pre versus post Naruto anime (aka dubbed anime in 2005/6) is...unfortunate. Bleach could have gotten there if it had improved instead of the opposite or if One Piece wasn't screwed over by CN like 5 years ago.

also I'm amazed if no one has compared Gargantia to Full Metal Panic. I mean, they aren't too similar necessarily but the main character learning there is life beyond being a soldier immediately brings that to mind.

Holy cow, there's a new Ghost in the Shell anime premiering soon!

It's called Ghost in the Shell Arise, and it looks awesome! It appears to be an origin story of sorts, since Aramaki (or however you spell it) has brown hair. That was exciting, and once it eventually makes it's way westward, I hope AS picks it up for Toonami.

^It's a movie series. I thought we already covered this...but maybe that was somewhere else? Anyways, yeah, it looks good, but it might be a while before anyone picks it up.

Watching brotherhood, it's like the first, but the first had more to it.

Once you're past the first 13 episodes, it picks up drastically.

Just finished reading the newest chapter of Bleach!

There was a huge revelation today! It's so big I can barely keep my mouth shut, as not to spoil it, lol. (I noticed the resemblance the first time I saw him, but I kinda brushed the thought aside)

Now you know how I feel when I talk about Mecha. u_u

Yes, and after reading it I am upset. Okay Kubo, we get that you like to pull the whole "Remember this? Well it's not truuuuueeeee!" thing, but REALLY?! Really.
I... can't. I was starting to be interested in where this was going, but NOPE.

Spoilers from a completely unrelated subject, Rayman Origins

Remember how in this game, the level result character ends up being the VILLAIN for the game?! Yeah. It's like that in my eyes. Except not humorously random.

I don't know, I just eat this stuff up! I mean, yeah, it probably wasn't planned until more recently, but I still find the twist neat, and unexpected.

It's a mix between Super Robot and Mecha.

I finished Okami-san and her seven companions today! It was a cute anime. Can't say I'm too satisfied with the ending, but I'm not disappointed either. It leaves the door wide open for a second season so I guess the manga is still going? Well, now that that's done I'm going to watch The Devil is a Part Timer for sure. Maybe watch more than one anime, but... not sure what else. Maybe Attack on Titan.

At first I thought Evangelion was real robot, but then I realized, these things aren't common at all, they're very over-powered, and fight alien things with them, sounding a lot more like Super Robot than Real Robot. I know you love mecha, but honestly, I find I don't just like one anime genre particularly. I like Shonen, Shojo, Seinen, (never looked at Josei) Slice of Life, Comedy, Action, Drama, Mecha, Romance, etc. All of the anime I've watched so far are very different, yet I've loved all of them at varying levels.

Finished up Bucchigiri Cabin Attendant (at least what Manga Fox had of it) today.

Overall it was a pretty funny story about airplane stewardesses dealing with their job, and with their gangster ("bucchigiri") boss dealing with unruly passengers (usually by beating the crud out of them), such as privilaged foreign politicians, terrorists, student punks, and more.

For those worried, fan service slightly picks up starting in volume 2, but overall has a very minimal presence.
