EDIT: Ugh, really? There's no dub for Okami-san available for free after episode 2? What the heck Funimation?

I had something of a mini-marathon over the weekend and watched all 12 episodes of Another. Wow. It's well-animated and pretty to look at, the show does a good job of foreshadowing who the "dead person" is throughout its run (with plenty of red herrings, to keep you on your toes) without giving it away until the very end and there is something resembling... well, saying that there's a "happy ending" is a huge stretch, though there is a return to normalcy.

But man, the many horrible deaths and the dark character transformations (especially in the last couple of episodes) it depicts were absolutely brutal to watch at times, and are probably what will most stick with me. I spent most of the show's run with a sense of dread over what terrible thing was going to happen to these poor kids next.

o-...oh my. ;~; Dude, I don't no if I can watch that just from episode 1. My goodness it looks depressing.

Sometimes they'll make the first two episodes of a dub available for free to presumably give viewers a nice appetizer, and other times their decisions on what's available are a little harder to understand.

For example, Funimation has decided to make episodes 1-4 and 13-24 of their Steins;Gate dub available for free, but not episodes 5-12 . :/

Another is rewarding in its own way and its quality is obvious, but it's definitely not one of the easier watches out there and it's certainly not a happy one. It only gets more unsettling as it progresses, so I won't blame anybody that wants to bail out before it gets to be too much of a bummer.

The sound design (no doubt intentionally) adds a sense of unease and growing dread to nearly every scene, almost anybody can be killed of at any time (sometimes in unusual, and always in cruel and grisly, ways) after the first two or three episodes, and the characters are almost uniformly decent and sympathetic people that do not at all deserve their fate. Even when some of the characters start getting really unhinged towards the end and start crossing the moral event horizon, you can at least see why and how they've been pushed into that dark, desperate space.

Anybody watching Gargantia?

@CanisWolfred
It's been quite some time, now could you tell me your thoughts on Valvrave the Liberator?

Anime watching: Mobile Suit Gundam, Lupin III, & Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable

Read up through chapter 6 of Bucchigiri Cabin Girl (no, it's nothing dirty).

It's a pretty funny story of a rookie airplane cabin attendent (the people who bring you snacks, blankets, ect), and her crazy boss (Hanazono), who used to be a gangster. Hanazono looks all sweet & kind, but at any signs of unruliness from a passenger, she'll kick their @ss. (ripping the door off the bathroom with her bare hands, chasing someone through the luggage department on a motorcycle, beating the crap out of student ruffians in zero gravity, and more).

It's been pretty funny so far, with very little in the way of fanservice (there's only one segment in the first chapter, with a drunk passenger wanting to be a little too "friendly", but that's only there to set up the fact that Hanazono isn't going to put up with any crap, and kicks his butt).

I quite like Gargantia. Attack on Titan is the best this season, but Gargantia is still very good, IMO.

What summer animes you chaps looking forward to?

Saw up to episode 7 of Okami-san and Her Seven Companions today. I'm really starting to get into the show now. I can really relate to most of the characters and that makes it all the more enjoyable. I really can't wait to learn more about Okami-san.

EDIT: Oh, the summer anime line-up. A lot more shows caught my attention than this spring's. Lets seeee...
Kin-Iro Mosaic sounds fun and I'll give the show a few episodes when it comes out. Unchouten Kazoku seems like a unique comedy. I'll probably watch one episode and see how it goes from there. Silver Spoon also sounds fun and the art from the manga really reminds of Hiromu Arakawa. Is it from her? Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi only caught my attention because the main girl is the spitting image of Sakura Kinomoto but the plot actually sounds interesting so I'll give it a whirl. Now, I'm too lazy to type this out but, there's one with the plot of kids trapped in school and they have to kill someone to get out. I'll see how well they pull it off. Rozen Maiden sounds cool, I'll check it out. Too lazy to type this one out too, but that one about the girls who have an extreme BB gun club sounds fun.
Boy, that's a lot.

Today I picked up a copy of volume one for Blue Exorcist on a whim. I haven't actually been able to sit down and read it yet, and I'v never watched the show either so I've really got no idea what to expect from it. Anyone care to share their opinion?

It appears Toonami will be premiering Sword Art Online this August (I'm assuming after Eureka 7 ends it's run).

Just browsing around the Adult Swim boards, and it appears the info was leaked on some anime news site.

Also, it appears One Piece had a major drop in ratings last week, compared to it's first week (a drop somewhere between 200,000 - 350,000, from what I heard). Lets hope it picks up this week.

Premiers always do better. Those high ratings were probably from people like me, who just wanted the one-time novelty of seeing One Piece on TV again, uncut and with a good dub. The fact that it still has a lot of ratings is good, since that means a lot of people are sticking with it, many of which are probably new viewers.

I was gonna mention Sword Art Online being on Toonami, too...

While I'm here: Nothing that's starting this summer interests me in the slightest. Which is fine, since I haven't had much time to watch anime these days. Some good movies are coming out at least, but I'll have to wait for the Blu-Rays before I can watch those.

That's probably true. Also, it didn't have the best lead ups last week, with Bleach being a movie tie in filler, and Naruto being a recap episode.

I think what was worrying people, is that it wasn't holding up to the shows around it.

Last week's ratings were supposedly around:

Bleach - 900,000
Naruto - 900,000
One Piece - 700,000
Soul Eater - 800,000

Still, it's a newer addition, so it still needs time to grow (last week could have also been just some odd off week).

Oh yeah, I should point out that Toonami should be getting really awesome for a while. The actual action of One Piece should begin soon (though "action' is arguably not the right word for this particular arc, but it kinda is...in a way), they're getting into my favorite arc of Naruto (and I've seen up to episode 170+ of Naruto Shippuuden so that's saying something), they're getting into my favorite arc (of what I've read so far) of Soul Eater and the climax of Eureka 7 basically begins.

BTW, I saw the first 5 episodes of Naruto Shippuden on Tuesday. In a row. That show just went from "the last long-running shounen show I'll ever watch" to "I'm seriously watching this as soon as I finish the canon parts of Naruto (which is #3 on my list)"

Yeah, I hear from a lot of people that Shippuden's pretty baller. I can't fathom actually getting up to date on Naruto though, so I haven't really bothered. I've seen some of the fights though, and they're excellently written.

As for summer anime... I'll keep my eye on:

Servant x Service: Mostly due to my thing with Slice-of-Life anime
Historie: European history based military strategy anime. Might be really good or really terrible. But I respect Madhouse, so...
Uchaten Family: This sounds freaking insane.
Gakuen Babysitters: KyoAni's take on Usagi Drop.

It's a shame there's no Little Busters Refrain, but oh well.

There's also what seems to be a Sailor Moon revival, for those who are interested.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

Holy crap. I think I like Death Note better than FMA:B, and I didn't think that was possible.

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?
