With the life-and-death game between a dozen mysterious competitors, the special cell phones that serve as their most important tools and the acts of terrorism, Mirai Nikki kind of reminds me of Eden of the East... if Eden of the East was much bloodier, had a much bleaker view of humanity and possessed even higher, more selfish stakes.

And with a cute, terrifyingly yandere as the female lead instead of a cute, normal "everywoman" - I'm only a handful of episodes in, and Yuno might already be one of the single most terrifying anime creations I've ever seen. Perhaps it's the way they contrast with her vicious actions (both actual and implied) and super-creepy stalker tendencies, but the moments where she behaves like a totally normal, sweet, charming girl only serve to make her more terrifying.

I someday want to see Eden of the East, just because despite it being one of the more talked about anime on the internet, I somehow still know nothing about it. All I know is it apparently should have been better than it was.

Eden of the East was great, although it tackled some pretty big issues and didn't really get through all of them in its run. Just a caveat though, you might not want to watch it if you have an allergy to thousands upon thousands of naked men, of questionable attractiveness.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

@theStyleWithin It was because I'd realised that I was trying waaaaaaaay too hard to fit into a bunch of online communities at once, and so I had to try and keep that in check. If my name was SuperKamiGuru or something like that, I probably would have overshot my welcome and got booted out for my trouble

Plus, I've never really taken myself too seriously

I still need to watch Paradise Lost, so I don't know how the whole story ends, but I liked Eden of the East and The King of Eden enough to watch them three and two times, respectively (it doesn't hurt that the series is really short, so re-watching it isn't terribly time-consuming). Despite its flaws, it's still a really fun and likable show, and an occasionally tense thriller.

And, again, it has what is probably my favorite ED ever.

EDIT: Oh, and the English-speaking characters actually sound like native speakers in the original Japanese dub. It's a small thing, really, but it was still a very pleasant surprise and helped to keep me immersed in the show.

Even some of the best anime can struggle to pull off characters that are supposed to be capable of speaking natural-sounding English (I'm looking squarely at you, Beck), so kudos to Eden of the East's production team for going that extra mile and nailing that little touch.

So uh, Full Metal Alchemist or Brotherhood? Something tells me if I watch Brotherhood first, I won't watch the other one.

@RevolverLink Bwahahaha, I still completely refuse to watch BECK subbed. The dub is pretty excellent though, so no complaints there (except maybe for the ridiculous amount of swearing, but that sorta added to the atmosphere).

I liken the two series to New York- and Chicago-style pizza: you might prefer one over the other, but they're both very different, and delicious, takes on the same premise.

Even in a post-Brotherhood world, I still think the 2003 FMA series is an anime that it is very much worth watching.

Alrighty! I'll be watching the original first! Thanks!

@Magikarp - I watched BECK's sub first, since it was the only version available on Hulu at the time. For all I know, it may sound perfectly adequate to the show's intended audience of Japanese-speaking viewers, but for me, the almost comically poor English voice acting is jarring every time and it pops up fairly often, which is a real shame for an anime that's so intelligent and moving otherwise. But yeah, I agree that Funimation did a great job with the dub (as they often do), so it's all good.

I don't care what anyone says, I love the Davy Back Fight arc, filler and all. I'm definitely down for tonight's episode.

I love the Davy Back fight, too. The fact that it's among the worst canon arcs (according to a lot of fans) just emphasis how great the series really is.

Maybe, but I think it'll be more because the arc Toonami is starting with is especially silly and weird, even for One Piece, than the show itself being especially hard to follow.

I think @CanisWolfred might have mentioned it recently, but unlike most other long-running action series, the major arcs in One Piece are pretty self-contained most of the time. Often, the Strawhats just sort bump into a new threat by accident on their way to accomplish something else. And OP is usually pretty good about refreshing viewers on relevant info from previous story arcs, when the need arises.

Actually, that was kkslider who said the stories are mostly self-contained. Credit where credit is due.

Also, Toonami viewers are in for a treat. The dub during this arc I found to be particularly enjoyable.
