It's definitely a mixed show from what I've seen. On one hand, the rotoscope art style fits into the more dark and deep themes that the series seems to want to portray. On the other hand, various other small aspects ruin the unsettling tone that I perceive to be the show's ultimate goal. Of course, I've only seen two episodes of the series, so I'm judging an entire series based off of ~45 minutes of its actual content.

Sentient
This genre features robots that have the ability to be self-aware, think and/or feel emotion, the source of sentience varies from aliens, such as The Transformers (1984), to artificial intelligence, such as Brave Police J-Decker (1994), to magic, such as Brave of the Legend Da Garn (1992) and even disembodied human souls in Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995-1996). The first sentient robot, also the first mecha anime in colour, was Astroganger (1972).
Wearable
This genre features robots that are controlled by humans but rather than being piloted as a vehicle the humans may wear (hence the name) robotic armour, such as in Genesis Climber Mospeada (1983), fuse with the robots, such as in GaoGaiGar (1997), combine with the robots, such as in Transformers: Super-God Masterforce (1988) or become the robots themselves, such as in Brave Command Dagwon (1996).
Remote controlled
This genre features robots that are controlled externally, the first mecha anime, Tetsujin 28-go (1966) is a famous example.
Piloted
This popular genre features robots piloted internally, examples are Mazinger Z, which established the genre (1972), Mobile Suit Gundam (1979), Super Dimension Fortress Macross (1982) and Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995), though the latter as with all organic mecha may also be considered sentient.

Mind giving a few examples without spoilers?
There's this one instance where the main character is screaming and his screaming seems to come out of nowhere. After that brief moment there's a humorous scene that feels extremely out of place in comparison to what else has been shown within the series. Those elements really drag down what is building itself up to be a psychological series.

So far it's not scary but almost everybody in the show is unlikable and creepy things happen because of that.

A lot of things, especially the general style and constant themes that all come together nicely; I love the characters and how they develop; I love the story and how it ties into the main themes; I love the constantly kick@$$ action; The animation, music, pretty much everything else is great, too. Mostly, though, I love that it's a labor of love and how it all shines through from beginning to end.
That said, Gurren Lagann is my 5th Favorite Anime...There are 4 other labors of love that I love even more.
As for Mecha, I love that mecha is often more realistic and grounded. Particularly in the action department. Outside of a few shows, I find most Pure Super Robt anime lack intensity when it comes to their action, simply because the robots never really have clear limits for the better part of each series. Often times it will feel that the robots are pretty much invincible, and that makes it difficult to really worry about the characters, and makes the battles unpredictable for all the wrong reasons. Real Robot, however, always establishes limitations early on, and the battles tend to be much more intense because of it.
I think it's easiest with Examples: Compare a random episode from GoLion to a random fight scene from Victory Gundam. Honestly, I knew the outcome of both, yet was still on the edge of my seat after watching the Victory Gundam clip. Feel free to disagree with me, but I just feel that there's far more at stake and far more ways to lose in a Mecha anime, and it makes the battles much more intense. That said, I find that, in the past 10 years, mecha has been having trouble with making action as intense as they used...
Also, as you could probably tell from the Victory Gundam clip, stories in Mecha shows are very often much heavier than you'll find in a lot of other anime, especially when compared to Super Robot anime. I mean, yeah, Victory Gundam is more depressing than a ton of other shows, having character death in practically every episode, but it's still not uncommon to have at least a few somber scenes like that in a mecha show, especially in the older shows.
I also like my sci-fi to be more realistic and believable, and Real Robot Mecha shows are definitely better at that than almost any Super Robot Show.

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm? X)
In that case I don't think I'll watch it.
I feel there's a difference between "Scary" and "Creepy". To me, 'Creepy' embodies the more unsettling aspect of horror while 'Scary' embodies the entirety of horror.

I watched Battle Royal High School last night on YouTube!
It was a martial arts flick, where a school's star martial artist gets mixed up in a battle between two rival demon lords, a demon hunter, and an intergalactic law enforcer (I'm not really sure how that last one fits, but whatever).
It would have been better if it had tried to be purposefully campy or comedic (like Project A-KO), but they tried being mostly serious, which just didn't fly over with me.
The final couple of fights were entertaining enough, although nothing spectacular.

Switch - Blade Strangers

I got done watching the second episode of Attack on Titan. I only have one opinion;
This guy. This guy is all of the swear words. Forever.

I saw some clips of the English Dub of Panty & Stockings. Haha that was good. I saw the pole to heaven club on Funi's YouTube channel. That was pretty funny. I should watch more. I love it!
