Topic: Anime & Manga (NO SPOILERS PLEASE)

Oh, and I heard about something incredibly cool last night on NHK World.

Apparently a bunch of big manga artists are coming together to form an all star compilation known as the Hero's Come Back project. Each artist is creating a brand new chapter from one of their famous finished series, and a large portion of the compilation's profits will go to those affected by the 2011 earthquake.

I'm not sure which series' are being revived for the compilation, except that I noticed InuYasha on the corner of the cover.

The creators of Full Metal Alchemist and Patlabor are involved. That's got me really excited!

Also, two guys who I don't recognize are also involved.

EDIT: Naruto's second opening is effing fantastic! It also sounds somewhat familiar, but I'm not sure where I would've heard it before...

I've stopped reading Gravitation as it was...disappointing to say the least. I thought it would be a good choice for my first yaoi due to all the praise it has received and it seems to be the most popular yaoi manga there is. How it got that popular is incomprehensible to me. Maybe the anime is much better and it was because of that. Shuichi is an idiot! He is obsessed with someone who does nothing but act cold towards him. It seemed like there was some hope for their relationship when Yuki thought he'd been harsh on Shuichi and went to his house with flowers as Shuichi had been in hospital but then Yuki raped him and mocked him for crying after wards. Despite that, not long afterwards, Shuichi is clinging to him saying that he can't live without him. Shuichi must have something mentally wrong with him if he acts like that towards someone who just raped him. I hope the next yaoi I try is better.

@CanisWolfred I find that opening too shouty but I remember you not liking my favourite Naruto opening much which is the third one.

I recently started the Baratie arc in One Piece and was confused when Luffy said that he was broke to the head chef. Didn't they steal a load of treasure from the Kuro cat pirates in the previous arc? Maybe Luffy just didn't want to give up their treasure.

Also, Aki might have referenced Shantae in Sgt. Frog when she made a suggestion to a comic writer to make the protagonist dance and whip enemies with her hair. It probably wasn't a reference as Shantae is pretty obscure.

They also did the 4th Opening to FMA if that helps (which is also awesome, if more of a slow build of a song).

Nope. The Kuro Pirates didn't have any treasure, IIRC. That's why they were gonna rob that girl blind and then stop being pirates. All they got last arc was a boat. They stay broke for a while, actually.

Also, I liked the third Naruto opening, but not nearly as much as the 2nd.

First let me say that I think it's awesome that they're doing this for a great cause.

With that out of the way, the special itself was anything but special, IMO. It was just 30 pages of the main characters hacking away at an average run of the mill demon, followed by one last "sit" joke (erase Miroku & Sango's children, & this could easily be slapped in the middle of the series).

Maybe I'm just spoiled by Yo! Son Goku & his Friends Return!!, but I was expecting a bit more from a one time follow up "special".

The second Naruto song is Haruka Kanata by Asian Kung-fu Generation.

I finally, finally caught up to where I started in One Piece. I'm up to episode 481, leaving me with only 9 more episodes in the arc. Then one more arc before I can consider this show done for the rest of the year while I wait for Punk Hazard to finish. Hopefully I can finish this by the end if the month and I can finally move on to something else!

And so after weeks of saying I'd watch Little Busters, I caved and started watching Little Busters. The first episode was rather excellent, and really funny! I can't fight the feeling that, because it's Key, it'll be horribly depressing by the end, and even moreso considering I'd left high school recently so the story applies a lot more to me.

I was going to finish off the Tales of Symphonia anime now that all episodes can be found online with English subs but I've forgotten some important details about some of the previous episodes so I've started over. It might have been easier to remember if it followed the game more closely but you can't really expect it to seeing as they condensed a 66 hour long game into 11 episodes.

I'm trying to think of something good to read.

From what I've read before, I enjoyed Dragon Ball, Bleach, and Kintoki (one shot) the most. I disliked Kindom Hearts, FLCL, and Fairy Tail the most.

Also, I'd like to try something I haven't seen, or am currently watching as an anime (which includes InuYasha, Fullmetal Alchemist, Tenchi Muyo, Naruto, Eureka 7, Soul Eater, Outlaw Star, Trigun, and Neon Genesis Evangelion).

So, any manga to recommend?

Tegami Bachi is pretty different. It's about delivering mail in a dark world living in fear of giant robot bugs.

@RR529 - ...I don't read much manga, but the best ones I can recommend are Crossbone Gundam and Monster.

Not yet. I'm still relying on my 3DS.

Even as someone who is not a fan of the previous version of the series, I am so pumped after this.

Holy G-d, that is awesome. And they're showing it on Adult Swim? Just what we needed! I love that movie, though not as much as the sequel.

May I ask what it is? (it's just appearing as a black screen on my 3DS)

EDIT: Found out what it is. That's... actually going to be very cool!

Also (on the AS boards), word's been going around that they'll be picking up One Piece soon as well? I guess I have no excuse not to try it now

Still waiting/hoping for The Final Act, though...
