Just so everybody knows I don't avoid older anime.
I've started to watch true tears, I've only seen 1 episode but I like it.

Just finished watching Akira for the first time. It went a little off the wall in the end, but overall it was an enjoyable experience. Had a lot of great action, and the animation was great. I can definately see why it's a classic.

Now that I've watched "The Girl who Leapt Through Time" and "Akira" on YouTube, I'm thinking on what I should watch next.

I've made a list of some anime films that I noticed have been posted in full on YouTube:

  • Fist of the North Star
  • Appleseed
  • Demon City: Shinjuku
  • Vampire Hunter D
  • Paprika
  • 8 Men After
  • The Running Man
  • Bleach: Hell Verse

Does anyone know if these are any good? I'll probably watch the Bleach film for sure (I've enjoyed the others enough), but have no idea on the others.

I'm actually pretty curious to hear what you thought if it! I watched it on a whim a few years ago, and I didn't have any strong feelings towards this.

Also, I hear that Fist of the North Star is good plot wise, although the concept of that series still puts me off a little bit. Exploding people isn't really my cup of tea, I guess.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

To be honest, I'm just glad they aren't all girls. Minus one male protagonist who they all fall in love with for questionable reasons.

yes I do think a manga about Nintendo vs. Sega would go in that direction. Life is sometimes weird like that.

Well if Hyperdimension Neptunia taught us anything about these things...

I don't think I'd ever be able to watch that series because of how strange some of the transitions were. Mario and Luigi confuzzle me on sight!

I'm pretty certain if I try the series I'm either going to love it or hate it. No way it will be anything in between.

Just saw an ad for ReelAnime from Madman, who are broadcasting several high profile anime films across Australia! They're playing From Up on Poppy Hill, Berserk: The Egg of the King, Wolf Children (I saw a couple of people posting about this a month or so back) and Children Who Chase Lost Voices.

Personally I'm interested in Poppy Hill because Ghibli, plus it'd be great to revisit 60's era Japan after Kids on the Slope. I'm not that fussed about the Berserk film because I'd probably need to read the manga to get the continuity; plus the ad had a lot of CGI fighting and I prefer my fight sequences to be the old fashioned kind :/ I'm also curious about the Shinkai film. Unfortunately, my exams and whatnot, so I might skip this year depending on how daring I feel.

An interesting sidenote, these films are playing in Newtown, which is perhaps the most hipster suburb of Sydney. As much as I'd like anime to be shown in a mainstream theatre, I can't say I'm exactly surprised at this decision

Toonami Saturday night!

  • Bleach: This was the most DBZish episode yet, which means it's also the most awesome episode so far . Seriously though, it was pretty sweet.
  • Samurai 7: Another team member added to the group. Some more neat swordplay. Oh, and weird coffee pot looking battle suits...
  • Casshern Sins: We learned a bit about Leda's past, and that she's a complete nut. Oh, and glowing robot children (that's so anime ).
  • Eureka 7: Renton is a complete & utter nerd, but that's why I like him so much . Poor guy can't win for losing.

Watched the 4th Bleach movie today. It was pretty good for what it was. Although I'm glad I waited to watch it until now (a certain big ability that was just revealed on last Saturday's episode played a big part).

Cool! I'll be buying it in December sometime, but how does it compare to the 3rd movie?

I felt the 3rd made up for the 2nd, but the 1st is still a fantastic movie to me. DAT OPERA!

I actually really liked the 4th movie. I'd still say the first is my favorite, but this one's better than the middle two, IMO.

I for one, liked the fact that it stayed focused on the core group of main characters (Ichigo, Uryu, Rukia, Renji, and to a lesser extent, Orihime & Chad), instead of trying to give every single character in their overbloated universe screentime.

The villains were kinda corny (outside of the villains from the first film, all their filler & film villains are kind of stupid though, so it wasn't a surprise). I also disliked the complete absence of Kon (seriously, what's the point of having a comedy relief character, if you're hardly going to use him. This doesn't just go for this movie, he's been absent from the show far to often as well).
