I was watching something on TV (Tokyo Eye), and they took an "Otaku Tour".
The hosts went to the Jump Store, and One Piece was plastered all over the place (you can even buy hand towels that have famous parts of the manga printed on them).
They went to an Otaku Cafe, where patrons can view new figures and months before they come out.
They also went to an Otaku Bar, which was decorated with all sorts of figures and images (I only recognized a character from Neon Genesis Evangelion, the Apple logo, and R2-D2...). The patrons broke out into song (the main theme of NGE).
They visited a huge cosplay shop, and one of the hosts dressed up.
Went to a giant manga shop, where rare books can be found.
I'll admit that a lot of it looked a little too extreme for my tastes, but the Jump Store would be interesting.

I've been reading Suzuka (Not for kids ) and it is a pretty good romance manga Starts off a little weird and has a lot of fan service at first, but really gets good later
I heard very good things about that one, it's unfortunate that the last 3 volumes never made it to the US. You can read the rest online, of course, but I don't think you'll get the bonus stories.
EDIT: How long are the chapters, usually, and when a chapter ends, does it usually have something designating it's the end of the chapter? Because I just checked out one of the later chapters to make sure, and it seems like it's missing pages...
EDIT AGAIN: Nevermind, the translator threw in Joke pages. Watch out for those...
Does anyone know when Funimation will finally bring Season 4 of Sgt. Frog over to the US?
I mean, they released Season 3 like FOREVER AGO! WHAT'S TAKING SO LONG?!
At least I've got Gurren Lagaan to keep me busy. I'll keep spoilers to myself, but I'm at episode 11 or 12.

Actually, it was less than a year ago that they released Part two of Season 3. They'll probably announce something in the fall.
Yeah, just finished Suzuka today. Was really good Teared up a bit at the end On Wikipedia it says the last three volumes were released in one big book or something. I read them online though
I've also been watching the anime Acchi Kocchi. It's pretty cool and lighthearted. Good as a break from some darker stuff

What is the best non-Shonen Jump manga and/or graphic novel out there? I'm not that big a fan of manga, but the manga I do like (One Piece, D-Grayman, and Naruto) are brilliant.
If anyone's wondering why I read only Viz Media, everything else I find is traumatically bad.

A lot of crap makes it across our shores for some reason, I'll give you that. I don't read manga at all except Monster, but I do certainly recommend that. I also have some Gundam Manga, Berserk, and Claymore that I haven't read but have heard good things about. Just some things to think about.
While I'm sure you will get loads of recs here, it might not be a bad idea to browse around other sites to see what people are talking about, maybe jot down stuff a lot of people seem to say are good. That's how I ended up with hundreds of anime to watch and I've ended up with very few bad eggs so far.

You can try Osamu Tezuka's Classics like Black Jack and Astroboy. Many people overlook it because it has an old art style. Also, you can try Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei or Say Hello To Black Jack.

I would say The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya but you seem to be more into manga with more action so I'll recommend Pandora hearts. I haven't read the manga but I'm loving the anime which has ended even though the manga hasn't. It doesn't have as much action as some manga though, as the relationships between the characters is often focused on more than the action but its still excellent.
Ooh, ooh! @PikminMonster - You should read Soul Eater and Shaman King! Both are way better in manga form than the anime versions, yet those were great, too! I completely forgot I started reading those a while ago. They're very consistant with your tastes, as they're a lot like those Viz mangas, except they're much better in every way (Well, probably not better than One Piece).
Anyways, I've taken a break from Dougram (which has been consistantly awesome for 25 eisodes) since I read a major spoiler that I now need to forget. Now I'm watching Pretty Cure, and so far it's been ...impressively tame for a magical girl show. Very little fanservice and the girls aren't overly cute or anything, and their tastes in boys are a little closer to their age. I really like the characters so far, though I wish the purple haired girl got some more development, but I guess that'll be the next episode. With that said, the action scenes so far have been horrible in virtually every way possible. It's like their from a low budget tokusatsu film or something. The first episode was especially terrible. Also, it doesn't look like it'll have much of a story. I'll keep watching, but don't be surprised if I get bored of it halfway through...

I'd suggest InuYasha. I haven't read the manga, but I love the anime.
Most of the other Shonen series I know of are from Shonen Jump, and since you don't want anything from them, I can't think of anything else to recommend.
