Topic: Advantages of PS4, XB1 over Switch version

For games releasing on Switch, PS4 and XB1, the obvious advantage of Switch version is the portability. I guess the graphics are usually better on the other current gen consoles? Are the graphics usually that much better to worth sacrificing the portable option? Which version do you usually choose?

I think you just gave yourself the answer: if someone's preference is portability, and they don't really mind the graphical downgrade that comes with Switch versions, then that's the ticket for them. If they rather play at home, and are a multi-platform owner, then why wouldn't they buy the superior Xbox One or PS4 version of a game? And often times, it's not just graphics, but also improved performance.

Unless of course there's a third possibility, which could be that someone would want to support third party developers who release their games on the Switch, in which case it would still be an option to buy the Switch version, even if it isn't used (exclusively) as a portable device.

Unless of course they really can't get past the graphical difference of certain games which, especially compared to the high end versions of the other two consoles, can be rather big...

@Don
If there is Switch version, i will never consider the PS4 version unless if the situation like Portal Knights between PS4 & Switch version that has pretty noticeable differences (not just graphics matter but also in fps, contents and features).

For me, after having PS4 for 1 year, i think my PS4 is become more useless in term of games library i can add. Instead, the games i have on PS4 version will be neglected once i got the Switch version (World of Final Fantasy, Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles, Overcooked, FF X/X-2, FF XII the Zodiac Age).

I don't see any advantages to have PS4.
I see myself wasting US$350 to buy PS4 Slim just only for THREE PS4 games that have very High scores (More than 90 from 100) from my impression (Portal Knights, The Sims 4 & Dragon Quest Builders 2 later).

I see Big Advantages for having Nintendo Switch. Portability, More Cute games, More Quirky games, ports from PS4, etc.

@Don Trying to be as objective as I can, I am admittedly a die hard Switch fan at this point. But for people completely not interested in the portability of the Switch, then for any game also on PS4 or Xbone, I would have to say the PS4 or Xbone version is the better option. If you don't want that portability factor then there really is very little reason to buy a Switch version of a game over a PS4 or Xbone version.

Objectivity off. I adore my Switch, regularly do take advantage of the portability and will almost always buy a Switch version of a game over any other. I am in the crowd of people who want basically everything feasible on the Switch and then some. I nearly always value the flexibility and versatility of the Switch over the greater graphical power of the PS4, Xbone and PC.

It comes down to "What do you value more, the flexibility of the Switch, or the graphical power of the PS4/Xbone?"

The other argument to make is PS4 has VR and though I personally don't find VR very impressive at all, a lot of people do seem to like it. It is for that reason I personally think the best gaming set up currently is owning a Switch and a PS4. Between those two machines, you can get just about anything at the most reasonable price point. Ignoring price I would say owning a Switch and a gaming PC is best, but gaming PCs are still considerably more expensive than consoles.

The only overlap I would not bother with is owning a Switch, PS4 and an Xbone. In my opinion the Xbone is the weakest system on the market in terms of what it offers. Switch has the flexible nature and strong first party titles, PS4 has VR and strong exclusive titles, PC has the best raw power if you are willing to pay and also supports VR. Xbone... is a PS4 with different and less exclusive content and no VR and it lacks the flexibility of Switch.
