Topic: Sleazy ads on page?

Since I'm seeing these on my PC at work, I doubt it has anything to do with my browsing history or targeting. But I was kind of suprised to see ads like this on NL. I certainly hope you haven't had to resort to selling ad space to these advertisers lately. I have a couple of screencaps, but it doesn't look like I can embed them here.

I never saw one of those, just mostly vindictus and amazon ads

@Tandoori I doubt NL directly deals with the advertisers in such cases - I suspect the site just plays host to an external agency that decides what ads feature.

@gcunit I know that, but the deals with those agencies also usually contain agreements or guidelines on the types of ads that are displayed, even if there is no direct control over the individual ads themselves.

it's not outright porn or anything, but it's definitely gross, "sexy" clickbait stuff. I'm used to seeing ads like this, of course, I was just suprised to see them on this page and thought the ad manager might want to know, as it's a little "off-brand" from what I'm used to seeing here.

@Tandoori I really don't think they have anything to do with that. I would be lying if I said I haven't seen some before but most the time i'm getting stuff for Rosetta stone LMAO.

@Snatcher again, I understand how web ads work. But site owners typically have an agreement on what types of ads they do and do not want shown on their site, and I don't remember ever seeing ads like this here beforeAnd if so, it's the type of thing that the administrators would want to be made aware of so they can contact the advertising company and remove them from the rotation.

@VoidofLight The problem with ad block though is that NL is not getting anything when people use them. How do you expect them to be able to cover the cost of running the site?

You can message @antdickens about this or mention him here. He usually takes care of these issues.

Yeah, I don’t use adblockers for this very reason.

Idk man, I'd like to see what went down in those hotel moments, and MAYBE the 21 Xmas pics that'll melt frosty. If you ask me, they're just trying to spread some Christmas cheer.

These types of ads will naturally go away when you stop going to sleazy websites.
