I suspect that the original publishers (or developers) are making demands that Disney isn't willing to give in to... which is odd as you'd think that a company as big as Disney would have had the foresight to ensure that they would have the final say concerning their own brands. I'm no fan of Disney movies, but over the years, they've produced some of the best tie-in games in the biz. In some cases, the games were much, much better than the films.

Licensing isn't quite that straightforward though...

Also there are situations where a developer has gone out of business, sold off their assets to multiple parties and no-one knows who owns the rights for the game code. This makes attempts at bringing these games to modern systems somewhat difficult

Judging by what everyone said, and that they ignored the PS1 games on PSN comment, they don't know why exactly it's not on Nintendo but exclusive to Sony.

Copyright/licensing is arguably more of a mess with the NES/SNES games, mainly due to having a bunch of different pubs making them unlike the PS1 games which were mainly Activision+Disney

Same reason why we haven't gotten things like Capcom's Marvel, LJN's Spiderman games(which are great imo), or the Super Star Wars series yet(actually that last one shouldn't be hard...I don't know why they haven't put them there yet)

Well, Super Star Wars was released on PSN (for PS4 and Vita) not too long ago and they added save states and stuff to it. Capcom made lots of the old Disney games, so perhaps they don't want to give Disney permission to release those for whatever reason? Maybe it's Disney that has forgotten those old games and that's why none of them have been released? That can't be true though since Duck Tales Remastered came not too long ago.
