What's with everyone wanting console games on a portable console? We only really got the NES games as a present to ambassadors. And seeing how bad the Wii VC was in regards to N64 games, I wouldn't hold your breath anytime in the future for N64 games on the eShop. I just wan't them to release a Majora's Mask 3D already!

Punch-Out!! was released on the 3DS and it wasn't an ambassador game... so I am worried about them releasing SNES as well. Not that it matters, I won't buy any console games on the 3DS but... that means one less thing I can buy come the Nintendo Eshop updates...

One less thing you can buy? But you're choosing not to buy it - you can still get it if you want it.
Thats the game that made me want to ask this question I want the original goldeneye with original graphics and added online multiplayer and everything the same level wise if they did that they'd be rich.... Richer
If the N64 games actually come this might be the control scheme.
N64 controls on left, 3DS conversion on right
A= A
B= B
L and R= L and R
Z= X or Y
Start = Start
Joystick= Cricle Pad 1
C buttons= D-pad
There is no control option for the N64's D-pad,the only option would be the circle pad pro, so N64 games that require the joystick, c buttons and d-pad may either not be released, or only work with the CPP.
Also the original Star Fox 64 and Zelda OOT probably wont be released due to their 3D counterparts in retail.
According to my sources, Nintendo is going to release a big bundle for the 3DS called "64 Classics" featuring 64 N64 classics all in one cartidge. It will be released on June 23, 2012.
lol what did i tell you about leaking my information it was for your eyes only
3ds can't handle n64 emulation(that's what virtual console is, legal emulation) because the you need 3-10 times the system your trying to emulate 3 times is plenty in cases of something like psp because the architecture of ps1 isn't all that different from psp's but something like n64 has a vastly different architecture then 3ds.
(bascally that fact that 3ds and n64 are so different means emulating n64 on 3ds would be near impossible) But 3ds can handle remakes like oot 3d or ports like tales of the abyss

3DS can handle N64 emulation. The only reason Nintendo haven't done it yet is because they don't have room for the d-pad, like @Firejonie said.

Why not just make it require the Circle Pad Pro to play, just like the Wii requires a Classic Controller? Or add more buttons onto the screen itself for players without the CCPro. Of course, n64 games work out well when remade specifically for the 3DS.
As far as Goldeneye goes, Rare still hast he rights to release games on Nintendo's handhelds, right? If not Goldeneye, then Perfect Dark for sure. There shouldn't be any legal issues there since it's already on the xbox and if rare can release games on the 3DS, then I see nothing stopping them. Save for the controls. Which is why it should just require the CCPro. I have one, so I like the idea of games utilizing it.
FireJonie has made the best way control scheme so far
Well, depending on the game, but most games would benefit more from putting Z on the "L" button and L as the "Select" button. Also, using the d-pad as the c-buttons would make a lot of n64 games unplayable, as they were often used as additional face buttons or in place of a second joystick.
It wouldn't make sense. The NES games on there don't really make sense...(not the 3D classics, the NES games). The 3DS should only get the past HANDHELD CONSOLE games (GB, GBC, GBA, DS, GameGear, etc....) whereas the Wii and Wii U should get the past HOME CONSOLE games (N64, NES, SNES, Master System, Genesis, etc...).
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I wouldnt say so. Releasing them on the 3DS VC makes them portable for the first time (officially).
However I would rather they focus on the handheld Virtual Consoles. I'd say do both if they were capable, but with an average of less that 3 titles a month - no thanks.
N64 games might not be the best for the 3DS Virtual Console because they're supposedly (or are OoT and Star fox it) making remakes of N64 titles and it'd hurt sales if you could get the same game $30 cheaper as a download. SNES games should come but N64 games just don't seem like something I'd play on a 3DS.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Even so, wouldn't they have to make them CPP compatible for C-button usage? Using the D-pad wouldn't be efficient. Using the touch screen would be awkward. There aren't enough other buttons on the system itself unless you count the D-pad.

I agree, but I do how the 3DS successor is when Nintendo goes all portable and we can play every Nintendo game on a handheld, make the system the size of an XL and use the camera some way so we can play wii games
