I'm eagerly awaiting an announcement on the 3D update to Link to the Past Miyamoto's been talking about for a year.
If that happens (it would be awesome BTW), it would probably officially fall under "3DSWare" instead of VC, just like all the other 3D Classics.
If you noticed, the 3D Classics are all labelled "3DS Download" like Pushmo and other "3DSWare" (while VC games are labelled with their system of origin), and are categorized under "3D Games" instead of "Virtual Console" in the eShop.

What would cause more complaint? Nintendo releasing the old Pokemon games without multiplayer, or them not releasing them at all?
I'd rather just have them released. hopefully they're happy with just local trading and battling as well - as that should make release easier.
I wouldn't mind seeing some GBA games for the VC. Just give me my Super Mario World? But if not, I'll be fine with Zelda Oracle of Seasons/Ages and Pac-Man (GBC), I loved those games to death when I had my GBC and GBA.

DP was the first game to use online play, not gen I silly
But still, admit it, you would eventually get bored quickly after you beat the elite four with nothing to do. That's where multiplayer comes in, that's where THE REASON WHY Pokemon sold well in the first place came from. Without multiplayer, pokemon could never be completed 100%. The spinoffs like the TCG game (The only one I demand) could come out as they can be completed without said multiplayer.
....Now If only those idiots on facebook would stop asking until they know the facts. We should be wishing for the spinoffs, if anything

And be paitent, Snap and puzzle league is on the wii VC, so Puzzle challenge, Pinball, and TcG will probably be on the 3DS someday.

It's weird, but I'm strangely satisfied now that they've announced Kid Icarus and Wario Land. Kid Icarus was probably my favorite Game Boy game (far deeper than the NES version, though I love 'em both) and I never got to play the highly acclaimed Wario Land. After that... I... don't know! What a nice place to be in. I'd like SMB3, but it's so available in other places that I can hardly complain about that.

Well...no, not really.
I never did multiplayer up until Saphire/Ruby, and even then I enjoyed the game plenty without it. there's plenty of hours of fun to be had just playing the game. After I beat the Elite Four I just went capturing more Pokemon - and no, I wouldnt be able to complete my Pokedex because theres no trading, but that wouldnt bother me, because I'm not obsessive. :3
I wish some people would stop saying that it's IMPOSSIBLE for Pokémon R/B/Y/G/S/C to be released due to no multiplayer. Guess what, there's no rule saying that notable games with multiplayer can't be released on the VC if they only have the single-player mode. Look what happened with Tetris, for Heaven's sake: it is probably the best known multiplayer Gameboy game (excluding the Pokémon games) and they still released it despite not having multiplayer on 3DS. Did the world end because of this? Was there a fan-rage equal of a nuclear apocalypse because of there being no way to play it in multiplayer? No sir, many gamers were still happy to see the classic game being released.
Sure, you couldn't finish the Pokédex, but let's be honest: this has never been the main focus of the game, and I really doubt all the Pokémon fans even bother with it. Back in the day, not everyone even had any friends to trade or battle with, leaving many Pokédexes incomplete. But people still enjoyed the game because of its high-quality single-player features like traveling through the land, clearing the gyms, beating the Elite Four, etc. This is the through meat of the game, and the multiplayer capabilities are just a nice extra.
@TheDreamingHawk I honestly think getting bored is not such a big issue, as most people wouldn't even bother with filling their Pokédex, and just consider the game completed after clearing the E4: besides exploring Cerulean Cave and catching all the Pokémon, there isn't that much extra stuff to do after the league in Generation 1, and even getting all 151 Pokémon doesn't honestly add up that much content, anyway. Sure, battling your friends would give you some additional playtime, but since there's no online, it can be hard to find anyone to battle with, let alone gathering more than one friend. Another thing is that many 3DS owners probably don't know anyone else with a 3DS, so they wouldn't be able to use the multiplayer functions even if they were available on the VC version (unless they had more than one 3DS, of course, but that's gonna cost a lot).
@Geonjaha I completely agree with you! I didn't really have anyone to trade with and still enjoyed the games tremendously and didn't feel bummed out because I could never complete my collection.
Before I finish this rather lengthy post, I also wanna remind everyone why no multiplayer in the VC version of these old Pokémon games matters even less: Generations 1 and 2 are incompatible with the subsequent games, so even if you could get all the Pokémon, what's the point of catching them all when they can't be transferred to the newest games? I wouldn't even bother with that task, and instead concentrated on getting all the badges and defeating the E4, and of course, re-experiencing the nostalgic days of my youth .
The main point of my argument is that nobody should state "No old Pokémon games for 3DS VC due to lack of multiplayer" as a fact since it isn't some kinda law which Nintendo must obey. If the Big N thinks they can get away with releasing the old Pokémon games without multiplayer on the VC, they can darn well release them if they want, only time will tell. If these games still haven't been released after 5+ years, then I agree it's unlikely they will be re-released on the eShop, in which case the people I disagreed with are free to say "Told you so Olaf!"
