Ok in the year so far i've been playing a lot of 3DS VC games and I just wanted to share what games i've beaten recently, most of which i've never played in their original format, they are:
Kirby's Dreamland (bet original)
3D Classics: Kirby's Adventure (ok so not a VC but counts as a NES game really)
Metroid
Metroid II:Return of Samus
3D Classics Kid Icarus (ok so not a VC but counts as a NES game really)
Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters
Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins
Gargoyle's Quest

Most of those games i've played in the last week or two, so I've been pretty busy. I hope nintendo starts adding more good VC games each week because i'm starting to run out of options of what to play. I recommend you guys play all of these games, you'll notice all of them are platformers and I think that the 3DS VC is a great place for them too. If you have any good VC games for the 3DS that are great, please let me know.

Not counting unvailable Ambassador games, I have recently beaten...

Super Mario Bros - Great classic, not necesarily worth the 4.50, but if you dont have a lot of the other Mario platformers then you'll be fine just getting this one.
Gargoyles Quest - Suprisingly great game. The gameplay is fun, and it is nice that it has RPG elements, although they arent that well done overall.

In the last few weeks I have tackled some real frustrating hair rippers.

3DS Classics Kid Icarus
GB Donkey Kong
GG Shinobi
GG Dragon Crystal
MD Strider
MD Shining in the Darkness
MD Monster World

I have a truck load of VC titles still to complete all of the above are highly recommended if you can beat these then you are a true master of retro unlocking.

I'm thinking of buying one of the current game gear games. Which one would you recommend the most? (considering price as well of course)

They are all great games definitely dont let reviews keep you from playing all of them.

Dragon Crystal changes everytime you play with different layouts of maze-like stages with alot of item management and figuring out how best to use it. just keep playing and learning it secrets and you will find out its a real gem.

GG Shinobi is up there with the best ones. You can select the stages Mega Man style and even go back and try the stages with different ninjas once they have been found. I liked the level designs and enemy placements in this beauty.

GG Sonic is just good old classic spikey blue dude awesomeness. Haven't finished it yet but it will be up there with the next batch of completion.
Also the Game Gear VC options are the best I always play on full screen with no ugly black borders thats how the GB and NES games should play.

Wow I didn't think this discussion would take off! I'm considering getting dragon crystal, but i've got a ton of games i need to play first. You guys know about those other GG games coming out here? I know for sure that the Australian classification board has rated several GG games for our region, they are: Sonic blast, Sonic Labyrinth, Defenders of Oasis, Vampire:Master of Darkness and Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya. I'm personally hyped for Defenders of Oasis because it is pretty similar to Dragon Quest and I love the DQ series a lot, plus it gives me something to look forward to.

Yeah, since SquareEnix are being evil and not releasing anything for the GB/GBC virtual console , we'll have to settle for that. I'll get it for sure if its 3.60 or under.

Magikarp3

ugh, GG shinobi... That title basically required enemy memorisation in every single level. For every cool moment you had where you took down helicopters with swords, another one a ninja would jump out from literally nowhere and knock you into a bottomless pit. That being said, I felt like such a boss after I finished it.

Avenging spirit took a while to click with me, but then it was completely awesome It's really short though, like Kirby's Dream Land short.

Also, I ran through Of Myths and Monsters yesterday (sorry, that's still probably a touchy subject here) and that's a lot of fun, although there's a lot of grinding involved in that.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

The only 3DS VC game I've actually finished (on the 3DS) was Metroid Fusion.
I'm now working on Yoshi's Island, first time I've attempted 100% even though I've beaten the original version a few times (normal levels only non-100%).
Man, some people say The Impossible? Maze was one of the hardest levels in a Mario game ever. I beat that one in one attempt (though it was a long attempt as I had to backtrack plenty of times). Definitely the easiest of the first four Extra levels (and I'm going to go ahead and guess all six even though I've never played the last two yet). Probably the only one yet that didn't seem to have a threat of countless cheap deaths that would make me want to hurl the 3DS across the room.

Yoshi's Islands doesnt have cheap deaths >:0
Also, it's a thread about beaten games, not necessarily completed ones.

Beaten, completed, finished, passed... uh, do they still say "clocked" in Britian?... same thing.

As to Yoshi...
In the Extra levels, yes. In Extra 1, will I land on Poochie before falling in the instant death lava? Will Poochie kill me because I get knocked off because he speeds up until he's faster than the auto-scrolling? (I'm particularly thinking of the part where you have to jump off the Bullet Bill to land on the platform after Yoshi goes off-screen (seems to suffer the same problem as Super Mario World, where the camera favors the ground rather than Mario/Yoshi), then when/if he lands, then it moves up.) Then when you need to come back down, you need to worry about Poochie being in a position where you can steer and land on him as you're falling. Hopefully he's not halfway across the screen.)
And don't tell me it's fair to get killed by getting knocked into a pit by the barely-visible seeds spit by the monkeys who care fire from behind the trees and off-screen?
I don't remember if the SNES version had the same problem where enemies can become "active" before they're even scrolled onto the screen. The one Shy Guy over a pit in Extra 3 gave me a ton of trouble. I recall another problem in 4-1 where Yoshi has to jump on a pipe while trying to avoid cactus-balls from a spitting Pirahna. Luckily there it's only a problem of avoiding a hit, and not fatal.

Let me reiterate myself on the topic of this particular thread, it's about 3DS VC not Wii VC. Hmm, I think i'm gonna get me another eshop card so I can download some more VC games, i'm hoping the week afters eshop offering is better, this week Europe/OZ is getting really only Game & Watch Gallery 2 and that's pretty much it.
I'm waiting for these damn GG games so I can score me Defenders of Oasis. Also why isn't nintendo releasing the other NES ambassador games yet? I really want to update mine that I got throught the program cos those new icons for the NES games are pretty sweet, as well as the save slate function.
I think I might get Avenging Spirit and/or Dragon Crystal, although i'm not too fond of RPG dungeon crawlers that much, although Warioland 1 looks good, I never got to play the original, I only owned Warioland II as a kid.

@oiiopo Grinding? where? It aint an RPG if that's what you're saying, i've beaten it and boy is the final boss difficult. It was a much easier game from the first Kid Icarus, but it was pretty fun.

Wow, that's impressive! Some of my favorite GB VC games I've beat are: Gargoyle's Quest, Lock N' Chase, Metroid II, BurgerTime Deluxe, Mario's Picross, SML2, and Pac-Man. These games have captivated me, again, after all these years.

Backloggery style. While they do pretty much mean the same thing, what I meant was that when you've beaten a game (ie. Finished it - gotten to the credits - beat the final boss) then it's fair to share opinions and recommendations. When you've full completed a game and all it has to offer (ie. in Yoshi's Island - gotten 100 in all levels) isnt really necessary to talk about how much you liked it. Reviewers dont have to complete a game to make a good review, but ideally they've gotten to the end of it.
