Topic: Star Tropics on WIIU proof Nintendo is abandoning 3DS VC

We have not had a 3ds VC game in months. The 3ds VC was intended for NES and Gameboy games. Yet Nintendo has now put two NES games on the WIIU. To me this is further proof the 3ds VC is being dropped. Also Star Tropics would make a fine 3Dified game better yet a remake. I loved this game on the NES,

You only just found out about Nintendo ditching the 3ds VC? It's been kind of an apparent truth for months if not longer.

First of all, what @ShanaUnite said. Second, how would TWO NES games showing up on the Wii U virtual console be proof of that? I'm kinda not seeing it.

@NintendoFan64: Logical reasoning. To predict the future one must first find a trend. The trend here is that we haven't had any games on the 3DS VC for months. That on its own already says a lot, but combining that with the fact that NES games are skipping the 3DS for the Wii U suggests that the Wii U is currently harboring all of the VC focus. You can't look at these like they're separate, connect the dots.

@BlatantlyHeroic: ...Okay, but what I was confused about was that out of all the virtual console games the Wii U got while the 3ds got jack, Startropics 1 and 2 are what give us hard evidence.

You're overlooking the fact that Star Tropics on VC is obviously a system seller and they're looking to move WiiU units before NX drops.

My other Switch is a WiiU.

I just want to see more Game Boy and Game Boy Color games on 3DS. There probably isn't much left in Nintendo's first party catalogue, but I would like to see third parties jump in with their own releases.

This may be a little off-topic, but they bothered to include footage of various The Simpsons games on the 13th season DVD/Blu-ray release (including Simpsons games for the Game Boy, SNES etc.), so if they can license the use of that footage, then I'm astounded, just completely astounded that they haven't bothered rereleasing these on 3DS, Wii and Wii U. As dodgy as those games may have been, I would appreciate the option to play them.

I knew the 3DS VC was dead back when Ufouria got released on Wii U but not 3DS when Japan got a 3DS release. It was the one game I wanted dearly in my 3DS

Or you know it could be Nintendo trying to float the Wii U with budget titles, akin to what they did with the 3DS and retail release to turn it around and in the process leaving the Wii U to sit. Just a thought.

Has the whole world gone mad?? You'd think that Nintendo would focus on the 3DS because it was more successful, but no apparently. Also, when was the last time a new First-Party game came out on 3DS? Xenoblade 3D maybe?

Nintendo's idea seems to be "virtual console exclusivity=more console sales".

There's not much we can do about it.

@NintendoFan64 3DS hasn't had a new VC game since Christmas (Pokemon Card Game). Though I forget if the Donkey Kong Land trilogy was released before or after that in North America (due to Nintendo's repeated procrastination on NA first-party VC releases after Japan and PAL regions, throughout the life of the 3DS)
If the Wii U has gotten StarTropics 1 and 2 yet, there's still Earthbound Beginnings and VS. Excitebike.

@KingMike I think DK Land was released earlier this year. Anyways, I know that its bad. I was just curious why it's the StarTropics games that prove that the 3DS virtual console is being abandoned, instead of the fact that it's pretty much been left to rot.

I haven't picked up my 3DS or Wii U in months to be honest. VC used to fill the gaps of releases, because I'd love playing old games that I enjoyed back in the day. I have no interest in playing any on the Wii U, so I'm just hoping they start it up again. I'd bet a huge amount on them not ever reviving it, but one can hope.

The save states on the Wii U make the game far more entertaining than it used to be without them. Mike just isn't agile enough to fight and avoid monsters effectively leading to lots of mistakes being made. Save states don't make things easier, but it sure does ease the frustration of having to go all the way back to the start when you lose all your energy.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

3DS VC was never intended to be for NES games, it was originally intended just to be for Gameboy, Game Gear and possible NeoGeo Pocket games.

@Bass_X0:
You have save states on NES 3DS VC games too.

StarTropics is not evident of anything really, since both games sold horrible on NES (I'm a big fan of them).

The NPD Group defines a core gamer... See Nintendo isn't part of the "hardcore"/core gaming group according to NPD data.

NGP was never announced. TurboGrafx-16 was announced but due to Konami dissolving Hudson, only four games were ever released and in Japan only.
