So, with Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS being such a mega smash one would have to think that a sequel is on it's way at some point, right? So far I've yet to hear a single peep about one so I started to think about it more and more and I'd like to know what you guys think. Personally, Super Mario 3D Land is to the 3DS what Super Mario 64 was to the N64 or what Super Mario Bros. was to the NES back in the day, so naturally being the biggest selling 3DS game to date you'd think Nintendo would be hard at work on a second one. Right?

I thought it would be Super Mario 3D World as they are the only mario games with 3D in the name....

^ you know it's because sequels aren't always on the same console, there were cases that the game had a sequel in the newest handheld and its last sequel(that closed the series) went back to the previous gen handheld...
but knowing Nintendo they won't focus on main Mario games for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if 3D Land was the last 3D platformer Mario game on the 3DS....
edit and sorry I didn't see(on the title, in the post I saw but didn't give much thought) the "on the 3DS" part ^^'

Since the NES days, which produced two iconic Mario games, and one very good one, they have been stingy on sequels.
SNES only had Super Mario World (Yoshi's Island, while excellent, was a different game altogether)
N64 only had Super Mario 64
GameCube only had Super Mario Sunshine
The New Super Mario Bros. series has only shown up once per console (DS, Wii, 3DS, Wii U).
Super Mario Galaxy is the first Mario game since the NES and Game Boy to get a sequel, and that was just because they left so much on the cutting room floor while making Galaxy.
So IMHO, a sequel to Super Mario 3D Land on the 3DS is more unlikely than likely.
I'm not talking about anything other than the 3DS, if you couldn't tell by my previous 2 posts in this thread. But let me re-phrase the question since you're having a hard time with it....
Question: Does anyone here think we will ever see another Super Mario 3D Land game for the 3DS? IE: Super Mario 3D land 2?
but knowing Nintendo they won't focus on main Mario games for a while. I wouldn't be surprised if 3D Land was the last 3D platformer Mario game on the 3DS....
see you just didn't read my post either now let's be friends since we're both only with the 3DS in this gen(for now) my FC is in the signature!

Yeah...not happening anytime soon, if there was going to be another 3D Mario on the 3DS, it'll be completely new or whatever than Land/World. Knowing the developers, they're going to move on and do something different with the next Mario game.

Possible, depends on whether Nintendo is desperate for an excuse to release another Mario platformer on the system. So basically, expect it in 2015 or so if ever.
But it's hard to tell. On the one hand it sold really well and I can see Nintendo wanting to take advantage of that on a handheld with even more owners than before. On the other... 3D World exists, the team have likely moved on and other things in Nintendo are their current priorities.
With SM3DW coming around... I think the likelihood of a sequel on 3DS is rather low. And Nintendo really needs to ease off that Mario pedal a bit... yet another Mario platformer is not what we need right now...
Also don't forget Nintendo said the Wii U and 3DS will only have one 3D and 2D Mario each...so I doubt it. (then again the Wii did get two Galaxies, so I dunno)

I would actually want a sequel for 3D land because I enjoyed the game that is if the sequel does not have a pointless feature that will make the game boring like New Super Mario Bros 2.
SM3DW is the sequel and it's on the WiiU so I'll say no. I think we will get a another Mario platformer for the system though, it may even be the sequel to a console title.
