Topic: Will there ever be a true successor to 3DS?

It should be easy to preserve the consoles by making a peripheral that the switch tablet can plug into with an additional screen and a card reader. I was disappointed that this never happened during launch, it would've prolonged the 3ds life as well.

Id like to see a cell phone add on mainly that also worked with switch and pads. Cell phones games are popular and profitable but will never be up to par with real games that just have different dna and blood types. If only there was some midde ground where both sides could break bread.

Enter a dedicated 3ds addon. Mainly a cell phone add on that plays 3ds and ds games or basically two generations of handheld whoop butt. But also just powerful enough to play games slightly more powerful than 3ds but not by too much or it would evolve into a switch and not too powerful so cost could be kept down because price is everything.

If they could make this cheap imagine 50, or 75 bucks for half a 5gds or GOBOY that you could slide your phone and joycons into. It could also masquerade as a digital watch music player and fitness tracker. Sure a cell phone can do all this but Nintendo could do it better by adding a best of nintendo album in the music player for free plus new free songs as advertising for future games.
Their fitness tracker could mario life 1up or size up every time a fitness milestone is reached. While actually running or walking or just exercise you could listen to the sweet tunes of mushroom kingdom or hyrule or crank it up with donkey kong country or shift into overdrive and boost fire with fzero tunes.

I would also like a tv only non pro switch that also played 3ds games with a wireless phone dongle that also turned your cell into a 3ds but only in the presence of a tv switch and had slide in slots for joycons. Heck the switch already comes with switch controller just give us a clip on for cell phone and a cell phone wireless dongle or app combo use for switch tv only.

I dont expect Nintendo to do everything or all things everytime but if they just went all in for the consumers sometimes their products could stand out and always and set the example for future seals of quality.

@HobbitGamer. That's the best part neither do I lol!

Also sorry about that i added digital watch and other extras at the last minute because i figured it wouldn't hurt to have extras.

But essentially what i was hoping to post originally was a single screen with 3ds and ds catridge slot on the back that could be plugged into a phone somehow and possibly use a small fraction of its tech in combination with the add on device's power.

I then got sidetracked lol when thinking it would be cool if it was designed in a way that added clamshell protective case to phone too, then i though what if a while the device is standalone a strap could be added to utilize functions as a music player and fitness tracker as a wristband mode.

I thought phones are touchscreen so bottom screen but most popular phones are pretty big so maybe they would be better as top screen plus for the 3ds part to serve as fitness tracker it would need to be simaller than phone screen. Also i suggested joycons as controllers because they could be removable and thus replaced.

In hindsight its a pretty bad idea, but maybe the tv switch idea is better which i suggested that the bundle joycon controller get a an overhead clamp for phone screen and a wireless phone usb thing for your phone.

@Ninfan no it probably couldnt do 3d.

@Ninfan

The lack of punctuation is this thread hurts my head, and torments my soul. I cannot comprehend this idea, because I can't reliably determine when a thought begins and ends.

@HobbitGamer My computer died, and my original post didnt go through so I had to retype everything quickly on phone before I started forgetting stuff, but as I said it was probably a terrible idea anyways.

@PlusUltra : The petting activity is called Pokémon-Amie. Is that what you were referring to?

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

Like I'm really surprised nintendo didn't put 3D with switch. I'm sure it would not have cost much.

@Silly_G Yes. I should not be joking about it. Even if for a moment, I know I thought that x and y stuff was the bomb. I even liked super training. Although eventually i decided to step away from the series since they were still seperating games and its always been a little too meticulous for me.

I am telling you guys though, in silver my first and last game before y, my feraligatr was something special. If that thing did not have affection level, even back then, then this my last post.

@Ninfan That's it!...........3d Officer Ninfan. Slide switch 3d warp engines to full power. ENGAGE! This is the way!

I think the Wii U and Switch just don't fit neatly into the specific definitions of what a home and portable console had been since the 80s. And whatever the end form of the physical hardware was the goal of both of them was largely the same. Streamline Nintendo's game development efforts by getting their home and portable game development teams on the same page. Simple as that.

So in that sense the Switch is definitely the Wii U's successor rather than the 3DS. But at the same time both the Wii U and Switch were clearly intended to move Nintendo to a position where they didn't need a portable console. So in a sense the Wii U was a beta-test for the model that would make the idea of a Nintendo portable console obsolete.

It's kinda like the iPhone and the iPod. When the iPhone launched Apple made a clear distinction between smartphones and mp3 players. But as soon as the iPhone launched the clock was ticking for the iPod. Basically, asking for what will be the 3DS successor is kinda like asking when Apple's going to release a new iPod.

I guess my feelings have changed since getting a switch. I do feel it is a successor to the 3ds. It doesn't have 2 screens but potentially offers something even better with its hybrid switching options and its removable and replaceable joycons. The way the switch is a handheld but can offer so many local co-op multiplayer modes is revolutionary.

Long ago in a distant land, I mean hopefully far in the future I just want another switch but better with stable joycons and easily replaceable batteries as well as a true budget option via a non pro tv only switch option this generation and the next.

All that said, I would have liked if the 3ds could have had kept fighting the good fight a little longer. Also in the future if they could produce an even cheaper way to play 3ds games without it looking as bad as the original 2ds and offering replacable controllers and batteries in some way I might be interested.

It'll probably depend on whatever is trending at the time. Who knows? Maybe tech will get small again, and a new ds will be perfect for the job.
