@andrew20 The Switch would still have released as Nintendo were probably prototyping it around that time.

@andrew20 I don't see how the new 3DS would've made the Vita sell more and Sony were dropping it by then anyway (I think). Nintendo handhelds have never really impacted the sales of the consoles and so the Wii U would still have only sold about 15 million units.

I don't know enough about tech to guess how much a New 3DS would've cost in 2011 but...considering that the 3DS sales were sluggish until the price drop, I think it could've done without the extra cost.

The only way I can see a New 3DS in 2011 being a positive thing is that if we got more technically ambitious games at launch (something on the scale of the original Xenoblade, for example). With the current lineup if could've only been detrimental.

At least 2'8".

Has something happened to Zoidberg? Shouldn't he have visited this thread by now?

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

@Buizel I was thinking xenoblade would been a dual release game or super mario glaxay 3 could happen instead of 3D land

Also I think That It wouid have been 299.99 and they would cut it to 199.99 to 249.99 anyway due to the Vita or it may ended up being Vita sales higher and 3DS sales lower in this time frame That why i think that they would have cut the Wii u off quick to compete so that the resorses would whent to the 3DS at this Time.

their not that much different to them. other than being more powerful than the original model, having a C Stick, and ZL and ZR buttons.
3DS would still sell pretty well weather or not the NEW models came out in 2011.

@andrew20 Well as I said before, the Vita would be dead on arrival. New 3DS would've had a 1 year head start.

@andrew20 The New 3DS as like the DSi before it, a largely wasted, insignificant update. Though more games made use of it than the tiny selection of DSi titles, for the most part, it felt like an afterthought. Had Nintendo wanted to continue the DS family, we should have gotten a significantly more powerful device, that had better screens, supported at least 720, and had a full spread of buttons with dual joysticks/joypads. Instead what they gave us was such a minor revision, that, like the DSi, almost no one knew about or cared about aside from us die hard Nintendo fans.

@Heavyarms55 : The level of support is not that much different. In fact, I think fewer games take advantage of the New 3DS than DSi games. Many third party DSi games (even more so than first party titles) utilised the camera as well as the extra CPU for their games. I would have bought a DSi in a heartbeat if WarioWare: D.I.Y. utilised the camera, but alas (or if Snapped turned out to be any good).

Unfortunately, Nintendo themselves aren't bothered optimising their games for New 3DS systems. The performance dips in the Fire Emblem and Pokémon games for example could quite easily have been remedied. Fine, I understand not producing New 3DS retail exclusives, but the least that they could have done was optimise performance for the New 3DS for games going forward.

I skipped the DSi entirely (it launched at AU$100 more than the DS/DS Lite, and the "upgrade" seemed so insignificant to the point of being negligible, so the asking price was rather insulting). I remember people being quite excited about it at the time, and I can only assume that they thought it to be a true successor to the DS. I did want to get a DSi XL, but with my DS Lite still being in good working order, and the DSi XL being priced at AU$300, I couldn't justify the expense for what had already felt extremely outdated at the time.
