I'm moving soon, so it was one less thing to pack and I hadn't played it for probably 2 months and I earned enough to hopefully cover most of the gas I'll use in my 1800 mile drive.
If anyone wants to ask about my foray into Nintendo/handhelds, ask away.
I love my New 2DS XL Pikachu edition, which I got only last year. I think if I'd jumped on the 3DS earlier I'd probably have bought at least one other special edition.
I played:
Final Fantasy III (About 1/2 hour)
Chrono Trigger (about 12 hours)
KH 358 whatever (didn't play much)
Ocarina of Time (about 3 hours, got to Death Mountain, saved and didn't want to cross that stupid field again to get back where I was)
LoZ Phantom Hourglass (About 3-4 hours, finished a couple of dungeons)
Columns (played a lot in short sessions when I had down time at work)
Pokemon Red (played about 5 hours)
You got rid of it so soon after just playing one real 3DS game? It seems like you hardly gave it a chance. All of the ones on that list are DS games, besides Ocarina of Time 3D and Columns, but I'd say Columns barely counts. What kinds of games do you typically like to play? The 3DS has a pretty good library with a large variety of genres.
If you're into JRPGs, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is one of my favourites, and the Bravely Default series is also pretty good. If you're into puzzle/visual novel games, Zero Escape is an absolutely phenomenal series. The 3DS also has some great strategy RPGs like FE: Echoes and the Devil Survivor remakes. Metroid: Samus Returns is a really solid metroidvania game, and Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is probably the best 2D Zelda game imo. I'd say it's my third favourite Zelda overall, with Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild beating it out.
That's really just barely scratching the surface, and that's without even considering the DS library. I feel like there really aren't many questions people can ask especially when when you have such limited experience with the console. You already answered the two main questions of why you're getting rid of it and what games you played, but there isn't much to go from there. It just seems a little weird to devote an entire thread to yourself for something like this. It's sort of like if I made a thread saying "I borrowed my friend's NES. Ask me anything." It seems like the kind of thing you would just contribute to an existing thread rather than creating your own thread since there isn't much discussion to be had.
@Cynas I mean, I hadn't played the system at all in the past month or so. This is the second 3DS I've owned, I had one of the original models which I got rid of for similar reasons (I think I owned Pokemon Black and one of the SMT Strange Journey with it. Played all the way through SMT but gave up on Pokemon after about 2hr). Honestly I just don't think modern handheld gaming is my thing due to ergonomics issues. Still have fond memories of my GBC and GBA. But nowadays I want to play most games on a decent sized screen.
I bought this 3DS specifically to play JRPGs portably but ultimately there was too much eye and hand strain playing Chrono Trigger at that size for my liking. The reason I have a Nintendo Life account at all was to decide between a 3DS and a Switch Lite. I ended up buying a Switch Lite and not liking it for various reasons, some of which were similar to the 3DS (I ended up returning it the same day I bought it).
Several of those games like Etrian Odyssey were recommended to me. I might have bought them but I lost my job shortly after the virus rolled around and needed to save money to move anyway. I actually owned A Link Between Worlds (it was in the ebay lot I bought the system in) but never played it. Playing Ocarina kind of soured me on more Zelda.
Anyway, I'm still waiting for my move in date at my new place and am bored so I'm back here discussing. Money sounds like a better deal than a small brick of plastic I don't use when I've got 1800 miles to travel.
@Magitek_Knight Because of Mario Kart 7, I'll probably never sell my New 3DS XL. I love that game My nieces got 2DS XL's a year ago, and when I see them we play MK7 races & battles.
I respect someone that can get rid of a console or games. De-cluttering can feel good.
@Magitek_Knight Really? My friend nagged me to get Mario Kart 7. NAGGED. It then became my favorite game. Because of Mario Kart 7, I knew I had to get a Switch for Mario Kart 8. I like the single player grand prix campaign, trying to get three star ratings on all grand prix cups, but the bulk of my time was racing online.
I couldn’t imagine getting rid of my SNES New 3DS XL. It is probably the most beautiful and useful console I’ve ever had. So many games I’ve clocked 100+ hours in.
@WoomyNNYes Nope, my one experience with it is watching a neighbor and his brother play the first back on SNES when it came out. They didn't let me play though.
That experience might have soured me on the series a bit.
@Blooper987 I haven't held onto a handheld for very long since the GBA. I kept my original 3DS for maybe 4 months and my PS Vita lasted all of one month (basically so I'd have something to do on a plane ride while I moved). I also had a PSP somewhere in there that I all but forgot about.
I don't know, something about current handhelds makes me not want to keep them long.
I didn't like Breath of the Wild, have I mentioned it yet today?
@Snatcher That sucks. I've had controllers glitch up on me before.A lot of times with buttons it's the rubber piece underneath that wears out or separates in them. Does it still power up at least?
On a side note I don't recognize your avatar but it looks cool.
I didn't like Breath of the Wild, have I mentioned it yet today?
@Magitek_Knight i know it’s on steam and switch and it’s probably on other consoles but I’m not certain. It’s really well written and fully voice acted. There are many laugh out loud moments throughout the whole game.
The platforming is best comparable to the Mario galaxy games. It’s probably best not to get it in switch cause it runs just a little worse than on other devices.
@Magitek_Knight ya its works just fine its just the buttons glitch, one of the buttons inside of it was jacked up so i fixed it but i jacked up both ribbons so yep story of my 3ds. my avatar came from A hat in time if that's what your asking me and have you played fall guys? and I have hat in time on switch and i think its works just fin nothing game braking or ruins the fun.
@Blooper987 I'm trying to remember the last time I played a dedicated 3D platformer. I'd say Uncharted but that's more of a hybrid TPS with platforming. I'm gonna say Mario 64 is the last one I played much of.
I didn't like Breath of the Wild, have I mentioned it yet today?
