Topic: (Question from a person in a hard place) Eshop Purchaces?

So, a while back my 3ds got knackered somehow and won't come on, (it used to be freezing, now it freezes on a black screen) but that's of no consequence, as one way or the other I need to send it in to Big N, and I'm wondering, Is eshop purchaces now tied to account? As such would it be a wiser Idea to just upgrade to New3DS now, and bring my sd card from the previous one?

eShop purchases are still tied to the system. we don't have an account based system yet. Nintendo and DeNA are working on it.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

You can probably contact Nintendo and have your account transferred. I don't know if simply moving the SD card will work though.

Simply transferring an SD Card will not be the solution. The accounts are tied to the serial numbers. Call Nintendo, they will be able to advise you better

Thanks all!
And to answer that warranty question, I'm an Ambassador on the system, so heavens no.

Oh?

eShop purchases are tied to your NNID. It's still a hassle to have it transferred to a new system, but it's there, an account system that works.

yeah but the NNID is based on the system. you have to transfer it into a new system before you play the games. you can't simply sign into a new 3DS with your NNID while it`s still on your old system. That is what I meant by that statement.

One way or the other, I contacted Big N today and they said if I sent my old system and a new one I bought, they'd transfer the data for free! So I'm happy.

Nintendoes what others don't, and that includes ridiculous anti-consumer practices like tying games to the console

Hope the micro sd card in the new 3DS is big enough to hold all your games & data etc. If not you'll need a bigger micro sd card.

Except that purchases are tied to your NNID. The only extra step required is that you have to call (the quite helpful) Nintendo tech support and get them to deactivate your old system and reactivate your new one.

Sure, it's not as painless as downloading a PS1 classic you bought on your PSP to your PS3 (except if you've reached the console-download limit. Heaven help you if that happens), but it won't take more than 20 minutes.

I'm wanting a new SD card anyway ;P the one in my 3ds normal is a 8 gig so, probably not.

What console-download limit? There isn't any as far as I know. You can DL your games on PSN as many times as you want.
