You have to be prepared to counter it before it's sent out.

BTW.. it can taunt you first. Since unlike the others it has priority.. plus it outspeeds the other prankters too..

Taunt certainly does the trick.
In the end it was when you healed Arcanine from all the recoil damage it was taking that I got the other hand because it gave me the chance to set up properly.
If you had have just spammed attacks till it died, then continued to spam attacks with Alakazam, I would have had to keep spamming Substitute till I ran out of HP.
Also does your Alakazam have Magic Guard? If it does then you'd be better off not Mega Evolving (I was relieved when you did), because I wouldn't have been able to touch it.

I was actually going to post this if you hadn't have already, haha.
It was a really good battle.
I thought I was in real trouble when Aqua Jet didn't quite take down Metagross.

I actually ran Taunt on it initially (Taunt + Encore is good for a laugh), but ended up switching it for Toxic.

FEAR MR. DERP!
A mega pinsir died to a stunfisk...

Also When I saw vivillon on his team I instantly thought that was the wall you're talking about as they kinda setup just like venomoth. Venomoth just has better typing and stats to pull it off.

This alakazam doesn't have magic guard but the nature and IVs were to good to pass up I haven't even ev trained it yet as its only level 20...Flare blitz recoil and life orb and toxic and leech seed would've killed arcanine in one two turns top, I was actually trying to stall out your PP with two offensive pokemon good game with a heartbreaking nail biting spinetingling heart stopping ending

Haha yep, I was never going to survive the Thunderbolt so had to just prey that the unboosted Earthquake could take it out, but apparently not.

If you had have let it just die to recoil and then bring in Alakazam, I never would have had the chance to use Toxic or Leech Seed.
I was stuck using Substitute till you did something else other than attack.

This was a pretty bad match up for Vivillon thanks to all the speedy Pokemon and priority attacks, so I ended up sacrificing her.
Once she's set up she's pretty hard to stop though, stats/typing may not be as good as Venomoth but Compound Eyes makes the set so dangerous.

Tinted lens beats compound eyes.

Reason being quiver dance sets are ment to sweep. Venomoth can OHKO charizards at atleast +4 quiver depending on the opposer's stats with tinted lens because instead of doing -4x damage.. it only does -2x damage. Pure fire types, ghost types, etc take normal damage.

Villivon would have to be a +6 and probably need a 2HKO.. hurricane sets are good but that takes away a moveslot. Rock types are everywhere to resist it.

My competitive team is going to be redone:
New era of Bulky Offense:
Arcanine
Metagross
MR.DERP

Mega will be:Alakazam or Lucario

Greninja may stay or go

Sixith slot will be ferrothorn or ???????? (UNKNOWN)

I'd still take Compound Eyes... 75% accuracy on Sleep Powder is too unreliable for my liking, whereas Vivillon's 97% accuracy Sleep Powder has only ever failed me once.
91% accuracy Hurricane is pretty great too... might not OHKO something that resists it, but still usually does a lot of damage after a few boosts, plus the confusion chance is always a nice bonus.
