Topic: Own a Switch and thinking about buying 3DS XL - Should I?

I never thought I would want a 3DS after purchasing a Switch but the 3DS is getting what appears to be a surge of great new games - which I wish were released on the Switch - not to mention the already large selection of great titles. Is this crazy thinking? Is the 3DS game development going to fizzle out in another year or so? Maybe I'm impatient for the games to catch up on the Switch. Fire Emblem Echoes, Monster Hunter Stories, Monster Hunter western releases, etc... The Switch seems to get a slew if Indie titles which is great but the most fun I had playing it was with BOTW and the Japanese demo of Monster Hunter XX. Never played the series before but I really like what I played on the demo. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

j

If you have enough money where buying a 3DS isn't a big deal, sure. If not, I dunno. 3DS has a lot of good games but that's considering my semi-limited experience with it (I have less than 20 retail 3DS games I think?), and I've been disappointed by some games. Do what you want!

My personal recommendations though would be the Zero Escape and Ace Attorney series (though Zero Escape 1 (999) I think is only on DS), Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, Kid Icarus Uprising and the Steamworld games.

Why not ?
Having BOTH Switch and 3DS is a good idea. Nothing wrong by own two different consoles.

Thanks for the replies. It has been very helpful. My favorite genre is RPG but I also enjoy good action games.

Then I think a 3DS is worth your time, it has a heap of RPG titles:
(These are approximations)
12 Main Pokemon titles
6 Shin Megami Tensei games
Persona Q
4 Etrian Odyssey games
Etrian Mystery Dungeon
Rune Factory 4
Bravely Default 1 & 2
Fantasy Life
Ever Oasis
Dragon Ball Fusions
Multiple Yo Kai Watch games
Dragon Quest
A couple of Mario & Luigi games
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D

Enough to keep you going for several years.

If you have the funds to buy a 3DS, I would definitely recommend just going for the newer New 2DS XL, here are some recommendations:

Pokemon ORAS/SuMo
Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
Metroid Samus Returns (Hasn't come out yet but it should be a great game)
Kid Icarus Uprising
Zelda OoT3D and MM3D
Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon

3DS development is definitely going to end soon, but if you've never had one I would say go for it and buy one. There are so many games worth checking out on it.
