If they sell below that price then all the retailers won't stock the games because they won't make a profit.

Stop complaining.

I'm not complaining, I own the game already.

I just think it's a completely idiotic move to sell it at $40 for a digital copy when it averages at $20 or less at retailers without price match (less then $10 online)

It isn't idiotic. Nintendo is just opening up another method of selling their games. People that don't want to buy the digital copies won't.

^It's not opening up another method I find idiotic. It's the pricing compared to retailers.

I mean, ignoring my own ideas of digital vs physical, I'll at least say games like SML3D and Ocarina typically retail for $40 at places like GameStop and other places without price match and online new. Even Kid Icarus (which has dropped a bit in price online) would make sense at $40 since GameStop still charges $40 for it.

Games like Pilotwings cost twice as much as you'll pay MAX unless you go to somewhere like Best Buy/Toys R Us and don't take advantage of price match.

Agreed. It's pure profit for Nintendo, though, so they're just gonna rely on a few desperate/stupid individuals to make some money off it, instead of pricing it accordingly so it becomes a major money-maker for them.

And It's not just stupid compared to retailers. PSN and XBLM drop prices regularly, and before the day-one digital thing, most games that were put on there were below the original MSRP, since most of them were already a year old at least.

Precisely why I say it isn't idiotic. They make money no matter what. The consumers get to choose how they purchase a game no matter what. Eeeeeveryone is happy!
