At first, we wanted to include a feature where friends could gather like this directly on Nintendo 3DS, but schedule-wise it was tight and wouldn't fit. So I said, "I'll do it with Mario Kart 7." Having said that, I knew I had to think of something and drew a rough plan on a big sheet of paper.

More proof the 3DS was released early and wasn't ready from the get go. The annoying this is that all these features could be added in an update next year but non of the mutiplayer games made up to now couldn't use do to incompatible api's. Mario Kart and Resident evil would be the only games that could use them.

Hmm. I wonder if they'll do this in a software update sometime.

Perhaps this is a preview of Wii U's online structure? Peter Moore did praise the Wii U for its online features. Either way, its nice to see that these features were not scrapped altogether and that we will get to enjoy them in MK7.

This is what updates are for. Like I said in the news post, the 360, PSP and PS3 didn't come with all their current features at launch. Also, what multiplayer games?

The Xbox 360 came with these basic features and then expanded upon them.

You can think of mario kart 7 as a preview for the Wi-fi community, because it's very likely they will add i as an update some time past the next one we get.

Also you can't compare Hardware to software. The 360 came out 5 months after it was revealed.
