Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles

My favorite color is purple and I find the darker tones of the case to be more aesthetic, so I prefer the NA box art.

Japan should be on its own and is the best one imo.

I choose to not vote as both are not great, imo.

I actually wouldn't have grouped PAL and Japan on this one since they are different enough that I do have an opinion on it and it's that the PAL one is better because the Krauser shot is really overly large and draws too much attention away from the actual main characters and also they have two touching pictures of Leon for no apparent reason.

Although while I think it's easily the worst of the lot in execution I do think the NA one deserves credit for being the only one that actually understood the title.

Japanese for me

I personally think the art in Europe and Japan is different enough that they should be separate options. I prefer Japan's. Better composition, more varied character selection and an actual background instead of just white void.

EDIT: I know basically nothing about RE, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain that none of the boxes feature two pictures of Leon. The other character is Steve Burnside.

Why are Europe and Japan grouped together? They're quite different and we'd had much more similar artwork separated into different options for other box arts.

The Japanese has more going on and makes better use of the space. Should’ve had its one category.

Either way NA would come in last.

Ironically, for a game with 'Darkside' in the title, a lighter brighter scheme works far better!

I'm sorry but I disagree on the cover being too similar. There's enough different about the bottom two covers that you should've separated them. I personally like the European cover as it's brighter overall.

None of them are fantastic but Europe/Japan at least has some degree of artistic thought, whereas US is just a couple of people standing in the void

I really don't like game covers (and movie posters) that have regular characters in the foreground and then these giants in the back, so Europe/Japan for me.

I voted for Japan art box, not the Europe one. The Europe one is dull, rje Japan one has more details. I prefer the North American art work over the European, but the Japanese is the best of the 3. (I am talking seriously)

I prefer the crisp look of EU/JP over the more blurry feel of NA.
HOWEVER, the zombies look absolutely laughable on the white covers, making me vote for NA overall.

I went US. If Japan had been split off by itself, I would have went Japan, but the whiteout of the Europe version is really offputting to me. It just looks like they forgot to finish it.

One of the many qualities the Wii had was those "lightgun" games. Both Resident Evil, the many Sega games, 2 Nintendo games, some third party and some on WiiWare. Really fun times!

@Ogbert author probably crapped this article out before breakfast, there's a good bit more detail in JP to separate them. There's a whole centerpiece with more zombies to start with, the mirror effect is way more complex because of it. Ah whatever

It should have been a three-way brawl. The Japanese character placement is far-and-away more interesting than Europe's.

I will echo what has already been said, whoever made the decision to put Japan and Europe together dropped the ball. They're not vastly different, but they are way more than slightly different. Aside from the different title, the female character is cropped a bit at the bottom for Japan; the character underneath her is totally different; Leon looks to have slightly different coloring, and his position is also different relative to the bullet hole by his gun; Above Leon they have entirely different characters for both remaining slots above Leon(specifically, the zombie directly above Leon for Europe is two slots above him on Japan, but still a major difference), so that's two more differences; There's a zombie that's prominent and colored like the foreground characters right above Leon's gun in the Japanese cover; and in the center, the Euro cover has a plain white background, while Japan has more zombies in monochrome. The two covers are definitely different enough for separate entries and I seem to recall brawls where more similar covers were separate.

With that said, this is all for fun. The NA version feels lazy and overly formulaic to me. Europe is better, but a distant second. Japan's cover has better composition, better use of space including the middle blank space, and much better character choices for the cover, both in terms of composition and aesthetics. My vote is for Japan, and Japan only.

NA cover fits more with the game.

@Lizuka I guess you never played Code Veronica because the guy up there on the NA cover is Steve Burnside, not Leon.

I know Steve wasn't exactly a beloved character but it's funny he was confused for a second Leon on the cover.

A bit of a frustrating one, as while the EU and JP ones (yeah, whoever did this probably should’ve given them more than a passing glance) are more creative and better designed, the NA one actually fits the title. Unfortunately that one is fairly generic and uninspired looking, leaving them all roughly equal imo. In the end, I voted for NA, but it would’ve been nice if at least one of them had the best of both worlds.

Japan/EU conveys better what the game is about. the covers conveys pretty well that is an on rails shooter with the broken glass. is not a typical adventure game.

I went with NA. The zombies on EU and JP just look goofy rather than scary to me

I've never much liked the North American Resident Evil boxes, but this one actually was kind of a tough call. Nevertheless, ended up voting Europe/Japan.

Very close call, but I'd have to go with NA on this one!
