About
"SILPHEED" is a vertical scrolling 3D shooter game released by GAMEARTS in 1986.
The player boards the air fighter SA-08 SILPHEED and sets out to crush the insurgency.
The game consists of a total of 20 areas, including outer space, inside the base, and above the planet, and players advance while destroying enemies who fly in one after another.
SILPHEED can be powered up by collecting items placed in each area, and weapons are added according to the score.
At the end of each area, players will be confronted by large enemies with unique attack methods, such as attacking with ring lasers or reflecting our lasers.

When you look at Silpheed for the PC-88 series in the proper context, it is an astonishing achievement. This is a game created for hardware that was in some respects inferior to the NES or even Game Boy. And yet, here it is, blasting past its extremely limited color palette, rendering objects with 3-D polygons like it's Star Fox... in 1986.
I first started playing video games around the time Silpheed arrived on Japanese home computers. If you'd shown this game to me at that time, I would have been absolutely gobsmacked. How did they do this?
Even if you're not all that impressed by its visuals and sound here in the 21st Century, the game on hand is still quite good. It's a fairly typical vertically-scrolling shoot-'em-up at first, but it has some unique features, such as space stations that let you choose a weapon systems loadout between missions, a Star Trek-like force shield, and gradual damage to various systems on your star fighter as you are hit by enemy fire.
There are also a few unintentional (?) laughs to be had when you first hear the garbled, awful digitized speech that occasionally pops up. I can make out "Good luck, Silpheed" in one message, but everything else is nonsense.
Highly recommended to shmup fans and anyone with interest in early PC gaming.
