When I was a kid, I always gravitated toward the Pole Position machine whenever I spotted one at an arcade. There was something about its hard plastic steering wheel, steel-and-rubber gear shifter, and metal accelerator pedal screamed "REAL RACING" unlike anything I'd seen before.
Pole Position has not aged quite as well as I had hoped. Granted, the experience is quite different playing with a controller instead of the original cabinet, but that doesn't change the fact this is a VERY unforgiving game. Crashes come early and often, and one crash is generally enough to prevent you from being able to win.
Oh yeah, and there's only one track to compete on. Win or lose, that's it. Race once and you've seen everything the game has to offer.
I can only recommend this to other people in my age range (born late 1970s to early 1980s) who have nostalgia for what at the time of its release was a fantastic racing game. It's not much fun to play today, compared to all the superior racing games that have come since 1982.
